Dunya, which has many names across the various cultures that inhabit it, is the nexus point of the planar realms - the material plane on which the mortal races dwell and the acts of these mortals have the ability to affect the very foundations of the realms. Wide and vast is its geography, its cultures, and its secrets...
Geography
The continents of Dunya are divided into two categories: The inner continents of Eldoria, Selitan, and Yasei, which surround the Inner Ocean, and the outer continents of Barah and Luarin, that sit in the Outer Ocean.
History
The history of Dunya is split into four eras, each being its own source for adventures. However, most campaigns will likely take place early in the new, fourth age.
The Age of Creation
Little is known of the events of the First Age prior to the Founding. Ironically, what little is known is passed down from the elves in their oral tradition. It is believed that the First Age lasted for around 3000 years after the creation of the elves, which may have happened immediately after the creation of Dunya, or millennia later. The First Age came to an end in a great war between the Divine across the surface of the planet, which warped the surface of the planet and led to the binding of the Ancient Laws that governed the ways Divinities could interact with mortals and Dunya itself.
Other than the war between the gods, the most significant event of the First Age is the Founding, in which many gods created the various sentient races that now inhabit Dunya.
The Age of Silence
Much of the Age of Silence is characterised by the mortal races establishing themselves without the aid of the Divine, most of whom were recovering from the war at the end of the Age of Creation, and were now constrained by the Ancient Laws. There were exceptions to this- many nature divinities adapted to the change better, and so many cultures began sects of animist rites, connecting with their gods without actually speaking with them directly. The elves on the Isle of Keivos also had more contact with their pantheon until the cataclysm that befell that place in the latter part of the Second Age.
During the Second Age, humans began their diaspora across Dunya in what is known as the Expansion of Man, settling and inhabiting all of the known continents from their ancestral homeland of Selitan. The Second Age came to an end with the reinvention of divine magic, as the gods began making their presence known again in the world.
The Age of Heroes
The Age of Heroes is the most well-studied, being the most recent age, with resources and magic at never before seen heights. Heroes journeyed across the lands and into the realms. It is characterised as most nation states having been settled, with the focus of various rival states being on conquering or influencing their neighbours, rather than expanding into new frontiers. The Third Age came to an end with an event that is still wrapped in mystery - the Miracle Wave - in which people across the world randomly survived what would have otherwise killed them, or in some cases, came back to life despite having just recently died.
A New Age
The modern age is a new era of discovery. Advancements in magic and technology are being made, and new ideas begin to circulate. How the next chapter of this story unfolds, is up to you...
