The party goes back into Ralas, finding a library where they read about the creature that had tried to kidnap Lady. They learn that the creatures are called skulks, creatures summoned from the shadowfell to do their summoner's bidding. There, the party is attacked by another two skulks, and after killing them, realise that there is a symbol on the back of their necks, which, using the resources in the library, are able to determine is the symbol of the cult known as the "Exaltation of Nethyr". The party reads more about the Exaltation of Nethyr, and Nethyr herself, finding out that Nethyr is a devil obsessed with motherhood, and grieving mothers often go to Nethyr to bring their dead children back to them - which she does, but as tieflings. Diamond digs up the grave of a former emperor and is reprimanded and made to pay a fine. The party heads back to the circus just outside the city, finding where the skulks have been being summoned from, just behind the table of the woman who claimed to tell fortunes. They also find Lady missing and her tent ransacked.
