Ring of a Thousand Keys

Ring, legendary
A tarnished brass keyring with dozens of interlocked rings but not a single key among them. When one small ring is removed, a new one appears in its place.   A ring may be removed as an action. When you remove one, a key forms in your hand that unlocks the next door you try. Once that door is opened, the key remains, but only for that door.   For GM Eyes Only
Curse. The Ring of a Thousand Keys is one of the thirteen unique Graven Rings. Like the others in the set, it bears a terrible curse.   This keyring is cursed. This fact is not revealed by the detect magic or identify spells.   Each time a creature removes a ring, the GM rolls a die in secret. On an even number, the key works as expected. On an odd number, the curse takes hold and the creature is pulled into the Maze.   The Maze is a shifting demiplane of impossible geometry. Its walls twist into strange angles, and its corridors echo with the sound of closing doors. The creature remains trapped there forever, or until it escapes.   Once per day, the creature may use its action to try to escape. It makes a DC 20 Intelligence check. On a success, it escapes, and the curse ends. When the curse ends, the creature returns to the space it left or to the nearest open space.   Removal Requirements. Escape the Maze. A remove curse spell cast on the creature while in the Maze also returns it to the material plane.   History. This cursed keyring belonged to Theresa Shawn, an accountant under the Gravens during the Bloodborn expansion. When the impostor Gravens took control, they stripped communication across the swamp. The Slatetops and Sending Seats were seized, leaving many trapped and unable to report the truth.   Theresa was one of the first to vanish after the Curse Carrier's dismantling. Her keyring was found at her desk, wrapped in ledgers that had gone soft with mold. In one of them, written in her hand, a single note read, "There are too many doors."   The Ring of a Thousand Keys has been found and studied on a few occasions. Each time it has gone missing, along with its current custodian.
