Paranoia Band

Ring, rare (requires attunement)
A small ring sized for a gnome’s hand. It depicts two hands clasped in friendship, one of silver, the other of adamantine.   While attuned, the ring becomes invisible. You are hidden from divination magic. You can’t be targeted by any divination magic or perceived through magical scrying sensors.   For GM Eyes Only
The Paranoia Band is one of the thirteen unique Graven Rings. Like the others in the set, it bears a terrible curse.   This ring is cursed. This fact is not revealed by the detect magic or identify spells. If identified, it appears as a ring of nondetection. Attuning to the band curses the bearer until special removal requirements are met. While cursed, the ring cannot be removed or unattuned.   The ring twists the wearer's perception and instincts. The fears grow stronger over time, feeding lies of betrayal and danger until there is no one left to trust. The bearer is affected in the following ways:
  • Their alignment appears evil to any form of detection.
  • Any divination or detection spell they cast paints others as evil or hostile toward them.
  • When they make an Wisdom (Insight) check to determine if someone is lying or intends harm, they always believe the most negative possible result.
  • They have disadvantage on saving throws against being frightened and are immune to any spell or ability that suppresses fear, such as calm emotions.
  • When they take damage from a creature they can see, they must use their reaction to make one weapon attack against the nearest creature (friend or foe).
Removal Requirements To remove the curse, the wearer must sever the finger bearing the ring and have remove curse cast on them during the act.   History. Also called Bedrog’s Band. Bedrog Bradley attended the first secret meeting called by Winston Graven. Afraid after what he witnessed, Bedrog recorded his impressions on a Song Stone. When Winston discovered the recording, he killed Bedrog. Winston later confessed his role to a local knight and took his own life.   This ring was Bedrog's contribution to the Curse Carrier, and it is possible it was a gift from Winston. Records suggest Winston and Bedrog knew one another well, and their closeness explains some of the violence that followed the discovery of the recording.   Bedrog’s belongings, including a second Song Stone, were seized and eventually preserved by the Arcane Collective. Those Stones supply most of what is known about the first meeting and the origin of the Graven Rings.

A ring of two hands holding.

The Paranoia Band, found in Bedrog's journals.
