Cooper's Plinth

Wondrous, legendary (requires attunement)
This large circular stone ring is engraved with scenes of loggers felling trees and raising a log cabin. The circle is large enough for a Medium creature to stand within its boundary.   While you remain standing within the circle, you can use Cooper’s Plinth as if it were a Ring of Earth Elemental Command. If you step outside the circle, the Plinth’s magic immediately ends until you return to its bounds.   For GM Eyes Only
Curse. Cooper's Plinth is one of the thirteen unique Graven Rings. Like the others in the set, it bears a terrible curse.   This item is cursed. This fact is not revealed by the detect magic or identify spells. Attuning to the Plinth curses you until special removal requirements are met. While cursed, the Plinth cannot be unattuned. The curse does not take effect until you first step inside the circle.   When you step inside Cooper’s Plinth for the first time while attuned to it, you immediately become petrified. In an unoccupied space adjacent to you, an exact duplicate of yourself appears. This duplicate is an earth elemental that possesses your memories, personality, and abilities, as well as earthen copies of your equipment. If any of this replicated equipment leaves the elemental’s body, it instantly crumbles to dust and returns to the elemental’s form.   The earth elemental duplicate can be slain, but if your petrified form remains intact, the elemental re-forms in an adjacent space after 24 hours. While petrified, you remain aware of your surroundings. You can see and hear as normal within 30 feet of yourself, but you cannot otherwise act or communicate.   Elemental Traits
In addition to your own abilities, the earth elemental duplicate has the following traits:
  • Spell Save DC. Spells cast by the elemental have a save DC of 17.
  • Terran. The elemental can speak and understand Terran.
  • Acid Resistance. The elemental has resistance to acid damage.
  • Earth Glide. The elemental can move through solid earth or rock as if those areas were difficult terrain.
  • Domination. The elemental can cast dominate monster on an earth elemental as an action.
  • Spells. The elemental can cast the following spells, requiring no components:
    • stone shape, stoneskin, and wall of stone
Removal Requirements. You remain petrified as long as your elemental duplicate exists. If the duplicate is slain and has not yet re-formed, you can be restored to flesh by any effect that removes petrification, such as greater restoration. Once restored, remove curse or similar magic can sever your attunement and end the curse.   If you attune to Cooper’s Plinth, but never step inside its circle, remove curse works on you normally.   History. Bartholomew Cooper was a master stonecarver and sculptor, who was regularly financed by the Gravens. He was unceremoniously ousted after years of faithful service while in the process of carving a masterpiece for Lord Graven. Bartholomew brought the statue's circular pedestal as a ring to help the others curse the Gravens.   While we do not have any images of the Graven Ring plinth, examples of Cooper’s expertise can be seen throughout numerous architectural design books of the era.
