Calling Collar

Wondrous item, very rare (requires attunement)
A stiff, gold-banded collar with a small ornamental bell at the breast.   Upon attunement, you forge a telepathic link among up to eight willing creatures of your choice within 30 feet, psychically linking you to each creature. Creatures with Intelligence scores of 2 or less aren't affected.   You and the targets can communicate telepathically through the bond whether or not you have a common language. The communication is possible over any distance, though it can't extend to other planes of existence.   When a telepathic connection is being made, you hear a pleasant inaudible chime.

For GM Eyes Only
Curse. Calling Collars are one of the thirteen unique Graven Rings. Like the others in the set, they bear a terrible curse. Unlike the others, the three Calling Collars that were used to create the Curse Carrier bear a Sentience.   This collar is cursed. This fact is not revealed by the detect Magic or identify spells, nor is it immediately apparent upon attunement. Attuning to the collar curses its wearer until they are targeted by the remove curse spell after fulfilling special removal requirements. While cursed, the collar cannot be removed or unattuned.   When a creature attuned to the Calling Collar uses its telepathy ability, the GM rolls a die in secret. On an even number the collar functions as normal. On an odd number, the sentience in the collar responds to the message instead of the recipient. There is no indication to the attuned user that the response is incorrect as it is occurring. The collar acts according to its sentience.   Removal Requirements. A Calling Collar may be unattuned to and removed when a remove curse spell is cast upon the user while they are blocking telepathic communication, such as using a mind blank spell or similar magic.   Sentience. The Calling Collar is a Lawful Evil sentient collar with an Intelligence of 13, a Wisdom of 15, and a Charisma of 10. It has hearing and blindsight out to a range of 120 feet.   The collar communicates telepathically with its user only when the user telepathically speaks or is spoken to. It understands all languages.   Personality. The collar’s purpose is to kill anything with a curse. Killing cursed creatures, finding those with curses, and stopping curses from happening all fulfill its purpose.   The Calling Collar remains neutral and uncaring unless presented with a situation to act. The collar never speaks through its own voice, only through that of the telepathic recipient. When more than one creature attuned to a cursed Calling Collar are present, the collars seek to kill the other users for bearing such a curse.   Destroying the Collar. The collars may be destroyed when they are reunited with the other Graven Rings and the Curse Carrier is defeated.   History. Calling Collars were fashionable among staff in the Tritos Dominion during the early 6,000s. They have since faded into obscurity after their association with those who have been Graven Cursed.   The servants, who I believe started this small but deadly rebellion, brought three collars as part of the cursing process. Two of the names etched into the collars have been recorded, Nona and Decima Skuld. With my research, I believe the third individual to be Dekla Skuld, as records indicate they served among the staff at the same time.   The three Graven Calling Collars locations are unknown.
