Tritons & The Dread Realms
As you might guess Tritons are not native to the lands of the Dread Realms, or Barovia. That being said there is a few Tritons that made it to Barovia, unfortunately for them.
Aproximately 22 years ago, in the land of Faerun on Toril, there was a Protectorate of Tritons off the Swordcoast. The Elerath family was the reigning priesthood of this particularly small, and new, protectorate formally referred to as the Elerath Protectorate. This particular settlement was made up of four families of Tritons and was growing fast because it was located near to a rich mineral deposit they had been harvesting and sending the goods to the cities along the Swordcoast.
Unknown to the Elerath Protectorate there was a Sahuagin settlement about 50 miles to the west in a deep cavern. Once they learned of this new Triton colony they began harrasing them and striking at them with raiding parties. The Sahuagin Baron, Esatros decided that the raids were not enough and he wanted to take down this Triton colony. The baron marshalled all of those he commanded, the sharks, and even a sea vessel they had recently "acquired" from land dwellers. The Baron and his elite road the vessel into the fray as the battle ignited.
At the hieght of the battle Calgas and his priestess Sethlyn Elerath charged the vessel from below. Their daughters were not far in tow as it was a family matter that all come to the defense of one's family. Uknown to the Eleraths the Sahuagin had employed an evil cleric to assist them in their endeavor and that cleric was at this very moment casting a dark and evil spell to empower the baron through forces unmentionable by name.
As the family broke through the vessel's bottom decks and sent the ship sinking to the ocean bottom their was an unexpected explosion of black magic that riveted through all those nearest to the vessel. As far as anyone knew this explosion not only slayed the Sahuagin but destroyed the entire Elerath Protectorate as well.
Wounded and shaken, the sole surviving Elerath Triton awoke on the shores of a strange lake. As she peered about she saw her infant sister nearby and scooped her into her arms. She noted a dark and eerie feeling as she slipped into the lake waters trying to make sense of what had transpired.
