Unseen Tides

Once every month (as counted by the standard Drakuni calendar), both of Drakunne's moons have a simultaneous new moon phase. Their combined effect on the tides combines with the solar tidal effect, creating an even more extreme tidal situation. During this one day, these three celestial bodies combine their powers to turn the normal oceanic tides into monstrous waves and devastating lows.   Adding to this natural devastation is that it's caused by the overlapping new moons, specifically, as Drakunne's moons just barely fail to sync up during the full moon. Instead, this tidal power is unleashed only during the new moon, when the lack of lunar light leaves even those with the keenest night vision struggling to see. Quite a number of people have been caught off-guard by towering waves or powerful grasping tides, pulling them off of their feet and sweeping them along into the depths of the ocean.

Manifestation

When both of Drakunne's moons have their simultaneous new moon phases, its tides turn into a devastating force of nature. Many coastal cultures pay close heed to the moons for exactly this reason. When the sky closes its eyes, both moons going dark, the ocean's natural tides turn into exaggerated monsters, swamping lands that high tide would otherwise never reach, and pulling back to expose lands that are otherwise always submerged during low tide.

Cultural Reception

Although inland peoples have little to no care about the tidal system, for many coastal peoples the Unseen Tides are a vital occurence to track. Most cultures that live near the ocean, or are otherwise dependent on it, will closely track both moons. On the day of the simultaneous new moons, they must ensure they are safe from the extreme high tides, and will often avoid approaching the ocean altogether to avoid getting swept away with its ebbing. Anything pulled into the ocean during these extreme ebbs is unlikely to ever be found again, swept into the unreachable depths of the ocean.
