Prime
A position of great power, primes are the elected leaders of (most of) Drakuni democracies, including countries like Posta. Although some countries use different titles for theirs, like "president" or "prime minister", prime is the general and broadly applied title.
The position of prime is highly desirable due to its inherent power, but difficult to achieve. As an elected position, one needs to achieve enough votes among whatever population is getting to vote, be it the general public or a council of peers. Although most of these positions can only be held for a few years at a time, most interested parties will only ever have a few possible attempts at getting in, as running for prime in a country you don't live in would be... Well, most countries don't even allow it, and traveling so far just to have a shot at becoming prime... It's just silly. But not impossible.

Other Benefits
Primes are the top leaders of their countries. They hold great power over politics, military, finances, and everything else that goes through the country's top government. Not to mention the social power, fame, and recognition. Everyone knows who is in charge of their country, if only so they can scold them for doing it wrong (or praise them for getting things right, god forbid).
Perception
Purpose
Primes are the top elected leader in their countries. They have final say over all things going on in the country, and are in charge of unifying all governmental branches, including forming new ones or pruning away ones they no longer need (or want). Ultimately, their exact functioning and purpose will vary per country, and over time.
Social Status
Many want to become a prime, be it for the money, the fame, the power, or because they just think they could do a good job of it, because they want to change things for their country. Whatever the reason, many want it, and few will achieve it.
