Earthen Veins

A massive enclosed tunnel system, the Earthen Veins sprawl across several Hemgan countries, including Zara and Surnamar. Home to the Brotherhood of Blood, they're both similar and completely different to the Tunnels of Infinity. While the Tunnels are an open system, and their inhabitants expected to leave it regularly, the Earthen Veins are entirely closed off from the outside world. The dragons that live there, are expected to live their entire life underground, unaware of the world above.   Or, more specifically, the Brotherhood believe the world above ground is uninhabitable. They believe the world has turned apocalyptic, turning unlivable, and the only ones still existing there are either undead, or otherwise corrupted and desiring to tarnish them, too. The Veins are the last safe place to live, and the dragons there are expected to safeguard it from intruders, staying away from the surface at all costs.   The Veins are incredibly high in ambient magic, spilled from the gods who existed in these tunnels. One still lingers, Hymn, a minor deity magically bound to the physical realm after the near destruction of his body, but he's hardly the only deity to have bled in these tunnels. The incredibly high magic content effects everything that exists in the Veins, warping the environment itself and forcing the dragons that live there to adapt... or perish. Not to mention the effect the magic has on their bodies, causing spontaneous magical mutations and otherwise twisting the bodies of dragons, whose magical origins make them even more vulnerable to such manipulations than most Drakuni life.   Of course, this high magic content is exactly the reason why the Brotherhood of Blood is established here. Where better to experiment with magic and research magical mutations, than in a place where such things occur naturally?
