Cheikh (/ʧei̯x/)

The cheikh is a beautiful flower growing in the dangerous mountains and cliffs of Mum, especially around its equatorial savannas. In these perilous circumstances, where few plants grow and herbivores are thus an especially big threat to those few that do grow there, cheikhs protect themselves with a twosome of defenses: their sharp thorns, and the poison those thorns hold.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Fairly ordinary flowers, though adapted to mountainous terrain with large root networks. Most notable are their beautiful flowers, used to draw in the bugs they rely on for pollination, and their savage thorns. Though the entire flower is poisonous, said poison concentrates in the thorns, which are designed to detach. When an animal attempts to take a bite, it ends up with a mouthful of sharp thorns and poison.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Cheikh flowers are occasionally harvested for their poison, which can be processed into a poison strong enough to kill dragons. Their tendency to grow on mountainsides and cliffs makes harvesting them a harrowing experience, however, and many would rather risk using a weaker poison than pay for cheikh poison. The Society of Infinity are known to use them as a source of poison, however, being skilled climbers and living near enough to the mountains where they grow.
Conservation Status
Least Concern (LC): cheikhs are not known to be particularly threatened.
