Halflings - Foodies and fighters.
"Never underestimate a halfling. I did once and now I'm down a testicle!" - Heinrick Gevaudan
Hospitality and ultra violence.
Halflings are a diminutive and generally peace-loving race of folk who dwell in the farming and plentiful areas of the isles. Despite their small stature, Halflings possess a resilience and resourcefulness that belies their size, allowing them to thrive in the midst of chaos and adversity:
Shirefolk and Wanderers:
Halflings are known for their love of simple pleasures and the comforts of home, preferring a quiet and tranquil existence amidst the beauty of nature. Many Halflings live in rural communities and farming villages, tending to their fields and gardens with care and diligence.
Despite their inclination towards a peaceful life, some Halflings are drawn to adventure and exploration, embarking on journeys beyond the borders of their homeland in search of excitement and discovery. These wanderers often find themselves caught up in grand quests and epic adventures, using their wits, cunning and ultra voilence to overcome challenges and obstacles along the way.
Masters of Hospitality:
Hospitality is a sacred tradition among Halflings, who take great pride in welcoming guests into their homes and offering them food, drink, and shelter. A Halfling feast is a joyous occasion filled with laughter, music, and good cheer, where guests are treated as honored friends and family. A close second favourite activity of halflings is a bar room brawl after an evening of drinking.
Halflings are skilled cooks and brewers, known for their delectable cuisine and fine ales. They take great pleasure in sharing their culinary creations with others, using recipes passed down through generations to create dishes that warm the heart and nourish the soul.
Hidden Sanctuaries:
In the aftermath of the apocalypse and when many humans were mutating and changing species, Halflings have learned to adapt and survive in the face of danger and uncertainty. Many Halflings live in protected sanctuaries and secluded settlements where they farm and provide gourmet goods to the isles and draconic overlords and practice the arts of ultra voilence.
These hidden communities are often nestled in remote valleys, dense forests, or hidden glens, protected by natural barriers and cunning concealment. Halflings are adept at blending into their surroundings and avoiding detection, allowing them to maintain their way of life without drawing unwanted attention.
Guardians of Nature:
Halflings have a deep reverence for nature and the land, seeing themselves as stewards and caretakers of the natural world. They live in harmony with the creatures of the forest, the rivers, and the mountains, treating them with respect and reverence.
Many Halflings are skilled hunters, trackers, and herbalists, using their knowledge of the wilderness to survive and thrive in the wild. They are also known for their affinity with animals, forming close bonds with creatures such as horses, dogs, and birds of prey.
They are less known for their skills in the art of combat - but all halflings are taught from a young age that there is no kill like overkill and that blood can be washed out of many things with a little salt and coldwater.
Basic Information
Genetics and Reproduction
Fauntlings (Halfling young) grow underground.
A 'seed' is formed by combining genetic material (most commonly hair) from two (or more!) parties around a blessed crystal.
This seed is then buried underground for 3 months and 'watered' with blood and other nutrients (The blood of enemies is considered the best for a 'strong' child amongst some halfling tribes).
The fauntling will then pull themselves from the ground, fully formed and able to speak.
Growth Rate & Stages
The fauntling stage will last for around 20 - 40 years before having 'the glow up' where over a week the fauntling will then grow and change into a 'tween'
The 'tween' stage lasts for 10 - 30 years depending on the individual and growth will occur in incremental stages, much like a human.
To become an adult halfling, 'tweens' will have to pass the 5 rites of ultra violence.
