Grand Temple of Imhotep
The Grand Temple of Imhotep is also Draconia's first hospital. It was created by Imhotep before he ascended to divinity. Here, Imhotep standardized the practice of medicine and perfected the Scientific Method. Most of the Temple Proper still serves as a hospital but there is an inner sanctum (which oddly enough was Imhotep's private operating theater) that is used by the worshipers of Imhotep as the Chapel. The facilities also house a large medical library, which contains vastly more scientific knowledge than even the University of Thoth .
Purpose / Function
Imhotep built the hospital as a place where those interested in the healing arts could practice their craft together and learn from each other. About the Scientific Method, Imhotep said that "science is not a lonely pursuit. How can it be? No one man can know all that science has to offer. Science, therefore, is best studied in a group, when a society of learners come together to find answers. It is then that life's mysteries can be revealed."
Alterations
Several expansions have been made to the hospital to accommodate different needs. When Imhotep gained his first divine followers, his personal operating theater was converted into a chapel for the needs of those followers. Also, the Sisterhood of the Mother moved into the hospital and added a maternity wing to have better access to the medical supplies necessary for delivering children. An Emergency wing was added to provide instant care for the inhabitants of the Island of the Gods.
