Broadcast Scrying

Broadcast scrying is the use of scrying magic to show events that are happening around the world. The process involves a mirror that is placed facing the event. On the other end, a person wishing to "tune in" to an event need only deposit a magical coin in a fountain that produces a smooth vertical surface of water. Those who know the scrying spell and have the ability to cast it need not use a coin.
 

How It Works

The Field Camera and Scry-Link

The equivalent of the modern camera is the Field Scrying Mirror. This device is a carefully crafted instrument consisting of a high-quality, polished mirror positioned to capture the desired event. This mirror is not viewed by the public; rather, it serves as the source image for the entire network. Critically, each Field Scrying Mirror is imbued with a permanent, complex Scrying Shield enchantment. This magical barrier ensures that the mirror's reflected image can only be successfully accessed by a specific, known magical signature: that of the Master Broadcast Mirror. This precaution prevents unauthorized viewers from accidentally or maliciously connecting directly to an unmonitored camera feed.
 

The Master Broadcast Station (The Hub)

The center of the operation is the Master Broadcast Station, which houses the primary equipment and personnel. The core component here is the Master Broadcast Mirror (or pool). This large, highly complex device is operated by a trained sorcerer or wizard—the Operator—who manually casts a Scrying spell directed at one of the active Field Scrying Mirrors. By casting and then shifting their focus between various Field Mirrors, the Operator can instantly change the displayed image, allowing for the "switching" of camera angles during a live event. The image received by the Operator then instantly populates the Master Broadcast Mirror, effectively broadcasting that single, live, curated view to the world.
 

Public Access and Tuning In

Citizens "tune in" to the broadcast by accessing the unique magical signature of the Master Broadcast Mirror. Access is achieved through any calm, reflective surface, most often a smoothly surfaced Public Scrying Fountain or a privately owned mirror.
  Tuning Method: A viewer who knows the scrying spell and has the ability to cast it can simply focus their intent on the Master Mirror's signature. For those without the spellcasting ability, access requires a specialized, hard-to-make magical currency called a Scrying Coin. Depositing this coin into a Scrying Fountain triggers a temporary, controlled scrying effect, instantly connecting the water's surface to the live feed from the Master Broadcast Mirror.
