HEAVY SATURN

Compared to most modern mecha, the SATURN is primitive, perhaps even backwards; it isn't powered by a Higgs reactor, but instead something even more dangerous (concept says a singularity generator, a black hole engine might have deleterious radiation of some type, it has no onboard AI instead most functions are run by the equivalent of a TI 8000 scientific calculator, to make it impossible to hack or attack by outside agents, and thus why it needs such a heavily integrated pilot. Barely any processing power one couldn't find in, say, a 1980s MBT. It is heavy and cumbersome, uses a neurohelmet interface for its balancing that puts extreme strain on the pilot, and barring a weaponization of its heat sinks, relies primarily on kinetic force as it's main weapon - meaning it needs to engage targets at point-blank; to date, every single pilot of HEAVY SATURN has died in the cockpit, or of side effects of piloting it. The USA passed over the project after the completion of the one prototype, and so the SATURN has passed from government hands to corporate funding into, improbably, personal ownership of the Crockett family as the nation-state that originally bankrolled it has fallen into the mists of history.   But despite its many shortcomings, HEAVY SATURN has nevertheless been there since its first deployment; it's fought Kaiju, it's fought alien invaders, it's fought OMNI (in a limited capacity), it's been used to intercept meteoroids, it's been used to help with disaster relief and construction efforts, and its heavy, amored shell has kept on ticking, even after several total rebuilds necessitated by losses. Due to its brute simplicity, the machine can somewhat literally 'be rebuilt from scrap', and its primitive OS is difficult to subvert merely by virtue of being ancient and lacking any meaningful net connections. As for the pilot, well... The SATURN is a hard machine to fly, and killed at least two pilots before cybernetics just to handle its pilot strain became common practice.
