Chailert (CHAY-lurt)

Overview

Moderate sized six legged mammal shaped like a lizard. Live in the forests of Dosjorya, usually in or near large trees.  

Characteristics

  Chailerts build their main clans north of the Great Achton River , but can be found to the south as well. Occasionally they can be found roaming the mountains, but never in the grasslands unless they are bonded.   Chailerts have six legs and their paws have scaly pads and long claws for climbing trees. Their size limits them to large trees, especially due to their stout stance. They have short but thick fur, dense enough to completely repel water from their skin even if they were to submerge themselves. Many describe their eyes as slotted saucers of nearly pure gold. They have the strength and size to carry a human up a tree for a short distance.   Herbivores, they typically eat foliage from the trees they climb, preferring oak leaves but are not very picky. In lean times or during winter, Chailerts can be found eating small amounts of insects but they can only eat them in moderation.   Communal in nature, Chailerts rarely have disputes with one another or leave their clan permanently. They form some of the most complex family structures of all Gendirlo and are not against mating with distant relatives. A whole family, if available, usually helps raise a litter of Chailerts.
