Laska, Goddess Of Love

"Laska does not demand devotion, nor does she promise happiness. She simply opens the door and dares you to step through, into passion, into joy, into sorrow. To love is to burn, and she is the flame that welcomes all who wish to dance in its light."
— High Priestess Relkira of the Crimson Curtain
Laska, Goddess Of Love, is known by many names and even more emotions. She is The Mistress of Passion, The Crimson Muse, The Untamed Desire, The Whispering Heart, The Passionate Flame, and The Wild Embrace.   In the ever-turning dance of fate and desire, where hearts ignite and wither like fleeting embers, there exists Laska, Goddess of Love, a force both radiant and untamed. She is the whisper in the dark that tempts lovers to meet in secret, the fire that fuels poets to immortalize passion, and the silent ache of a love lost to time. Neither wholly benevolent nor cruel, she weaves ecstasy and heartbreak into the fabric of existence, teaching mortals that love is both the greatest gift and the deepest wound.   Unlike the gods of arranged unions and duty-bound devotion, Laska scorns tradition, defies expectation, and laughs at the idea that love can be contained. She favors those who follow their hearts no matter the cost, be they reckless romantics, star-crossed lovers, or the artists who seek to capture love’s fleeting beauty in song and sculpture. Yet, her gifts are not without peril, to love is to risk ruin, and those who invoke her name must be willing to embrace both joy and sorrow.   She dwells within The Eversway, a shifting realm of endless twilight where emotions shape reality, and every whispered confession or unshed tear lingers as an eternal echo. Her temples are not found in stone halls but in hidden gardens, moonlit pavilions, and the lips of those who speak love’s name in reverence. Her touch is felt in every stolen kiss, every longing glance, and every heartbeat that races with desire.   To follow Laska is to surrender to love’s chaos, to chase passion without fear, to embrace beauty in all forms, and to accept that even the deepest love may one day fade. But in that fleeting moment, in that brief, burning instant where two souls meet and the world stands still, there is divinity. That is Laska’s gift, and her greatest truth.

Realm

Laska, Goddess of Love, resides in The Eversway, a divine realm of endless passion, longing, and ephemeral beauty. The Eversway is not a fixed place but a constantly shifting domain where love, desire, and emotions shape the very fabric of reality. It is a realm of eternal twilight, where the sky burns in hues of crimson, violet, and gold, resembling an unending sunset just before nightfall.   The landscape is fluid, shaped by the emotions of those within it, grand ballrooms appear where passion is shared, moonlit gardens bloom where tenderness lingers, and desolate ruins form where love has turned to sorrow. Rivers of liquid gold weave through the realm, their currents carrying whispered confessions and forgotten vows. Phantom lovers and lost souls drift like echoes, reliving moments of passion, heartbreak, or unfulfilled longing.   At the heart of The Eversway stands The Passionarium, Laska’s sacred palace, a structure that shifts between a radiant temple of celebration and a sorrowful ruin of faded romance, reflecting the dual nature of love itself. It is said that mortals who wander into The Eversway may find their true love, relive their most cherished moments, or be forever lost in an endless search for a love they will never reclaim.   This realm is neither paradise nor torment, it is love in its purest, most chaotic form, an ever-moving tide of joy, sorrow, passion, and regret, mirroring Laska’s own nature as the goddess of unchained love.

Divine Domains

Laska holds dominion over several divine domains, each reflecting her nature as the Goddess of Love. These domains reflect love in all its beauty and chaos, neither purely benevolent nor cruel, but as wild, unpredictable, and intoxicating as the passion Laska embodies.

Major Domains:

Love And Passion: Laska governs all aspects of love, from deep, abiding affection to reckless infatuation. She embraces love in its purest and most chaotic forms, whether joyous, tragic, fleeting, or eternal.   Desire And Attraction: She influences longing, physical attraction, and the unspoken pull between souls, whether romantic, sensual, or forbidden.   Heartache And Longing: Love is not always kind. Laska governs the pain of unfulfilled desires, lost loves, and the sorrow of those who chase an unattainable connection.   Seduction And Temptation: She whispers in the hearts of those who seek forbidden romances or desire beyond their reach. Secret Affairs And Hidden Desires: She holds sway over passionate connections kept in the shadows, whether for pleasure, love, or deception.

Minor Domains:

Coincidence And Fate In Love: Serendipitous encounters, fated lovers, and the unseen hand that draws two souls together fall under her influence.   Dreams Of Love And Loss: She appears in dreams as a phantom lover, guiding, comforting, or tormenting those who seek love in their slumber.   Vows And Broken Promises: Oaths of love, whispered confessions, and shattered hearts all bear her mark, as she oversees the promises lovers make and the pain when they are broken.   Freedom And Rebellion: Love should be free, unchained from law, tradition, or obligation. Laska favors those who defy societal expectations in the name of passion.

Holy Books & Codes

The Emberkissed Verses: Believed to be penned by Velmara the Heartflame, a legendary bard and priestess of Laska. Written over 4,500 years ago during The Age Of Romance, its origins are lost in the passion of history. This is a collection of poetry, love songs, and sensual prose, each verse capturing the ecstasy, sorrow, and intensity of love. Some claim that certain passages hold magical power, capable of igniting passion or rekindling lost affections. The book is often read during wedding ceremonies, lovers’ unions, and artistic inspirations.   The Crimson Vow: Compiled by the Passioneers of the Crimson Curtain, though some attribute its wisdom to Laska’s own whispered words. It is estimated to have been collected around 4,000 years ago. This is a philosophical guide to love, passion, and the nature of desire, written in poetic yet instructional form. It emphasizes the sacred freedom of love, the fleeting beauty of passion, and the inevitability of heartache. Some passages offer guidance on navigating relationships, while others contain rituals to invoke Laska’s blessings or seek guidance in affairs of the heart.   The Masked Confessions: Attributed to an anonymous lover, though some claim it was written by a high priestess of The Masked Devotion roughly 3,500 years ago towards the end of The Age Of Romance. Though copies have been forbidden, hidden or destroyed by the more conservative religious orders, several hundred copies are said to still exist. This is a compilation of anonymous letters and confessions, detailing the joy, agony, and scandal of love in its rawest forms. The book explores forbidden love, passion-driven betrayals, and moments of reckless abandon, all tied together with lessons on the impermanence of desire. Some passages contain coded instructions for summoning the aid of The Masked Devotion or invoking Laska’s favor in matters of the heart.   These holy books reflect Laska’s dual nature, showing both the beauty and peril of love, from intoxicating romance to passion-driven downfall. Whether used for worship, guidance, or warning, each carries the undeniable mark of Laska’s presence in the hearts of mortals.

Tenets of Faith

These tenets reflect Laska’s chaotic and passionate nature, encouraging her followers to embrace love in all its forms, accept both joy and heartbreak, and live without fear of passion’s consequences.   Love Must Be Free: Love is not to be caged by law, tradition, or expectation. It must be given and received willingly, without force or constraint. Any attempt to control love is an affront to Laska’s divine will.   Passion Is Sacred: Love, in all its forms, tender or wild, fleeting or eternal, is a divine gift. Passion fuels art, poetry, and the very essence of life itself. Followers are encouraged to embrace and express their desires without shame.   The Heart Knows No Boundaries: Love transcends status, race, and even mortality. No force should dictate who one may love, and those who defy such limitations are blessed in Laska’s eyes.   All Love Has Value: A single night of passion can be as meaningful as a lifetime bond. Whether love lasts for moments or eternity, it holds worth and should never be dismissed as insignificant.   Heartbreak Is A Lesson, Not a Curse: Loss and longing are as much a part of love as joy and ecstasy. To have loved and lost is to have lived, and every heartache carries wisdom.   Beauty Is A Divine Language: Whether through song, art, dance, or the body itself, beauty is an expression of love and should be celebrated. Followers often adorn themselves, create art, or perform to honor Laska.   To Love Is To Risk: Love is unpredictable, and true devotion requires courage. Fear of rejection or pain should never prevent one from pursuing passion.   Deception In Love Is A Sin: While love can be secret, it should never be false. Those who manipulate hearts for selfish gain or break vows without reason risk Laska’s scorn.   Never Scorn Another’s Love: Whether strange, scandalous, or unconventional, love in all forms should be respected. To mock another’s passion is to insult the goddess herself.   A Life Without Love Is A Life Wasted: Whether romantic, platonic, or self-love, a heart that refuses to love has denied life’s greatest purpose. Those who die without ever opening their hearts are said to fade into the void, untouched by Laska’s embrace.

Holidays

These holidays reflects Laska’s dual nature, the ecstasy of love, the sorrow of loss, the thrill of passion, and the ever-changing dance between fate and the heart. Whether in celebration, mourning, or longing, her followers honor her by embracing all that love brings.   The Night Of Burning Hearts: This is a festival of passion and love that is held on the first full moon of the spring. This is a grand festival where lovers declare their desires, rekindle old flames, or confess secret affections. Bonfires are lit, and participants write their heart’s greatest longing on paper before casting it into the flames as an offering to Laska. Those suffering heartbreak burn symbols of past love to let go of their pain. It is a night of music, dance, revelry, and passion, where masks are worn, and identities may be briefly forgotten. Many short-lived romances begin on this night.   The Dance Of Shadows: This is a festival of forbidden love, that is celebrated during the longest night of the year, the winter solstice. This is a masked ball held in secret locations where attendees are encouraged to dance with fate itself. No names are spoken, no faces are revealed, and love is given freely for the night. Some claim that those meant to be together will find each other here, while others see it as a night to embrace fleeting passion. It is whispered that Laska herself walks among the dancers, testing the hearts of those who seek her blessing.   The Lover’s Gamble: This is a test of love that is celebrated on the first new moon of summer. Couples, whether new or long-standing, partake in a ritual where they entrust their love to fate, drawing lots or engaging in trials that test their devotion. Some undergo separation trials, where lovers must spend an entire night apart, unable to see or speak to one another, to prove the depth of their connection. Others make binding vows before Laska, believing she will guide their love forward or warn them if their union is doomed. The festival is both a celebration of love and a trial by fate.   The Weeping Rose Vigil: This is a day of lost love and heartbreak that is observed on the final day of autumn. This is a solemn day when followers of Laska mourn lost loves, unfulfilled desires, and heartbreaks that have shaped them. White roses, stained with red ink or wine to symbolize sorrow, are placed in lakes, rivers, or along roadsides as offerings to Laska. Poets and bards recite tales of tragic love, and those who seek closure often embark on journeys to leave behind the memories of those they have lost. While somber, the day is also one of healing, reminding worshipers that heartbreak is not an end, but part of the cycle of love.   The Crimson Dawn: This is a festival of rebirth from love, celebrated on the first sunrise after the summer solstice. This is a festival of renewal and second chances, where those who have experienced loss, betrayal, or failed romance may seek a new beginning. Many use this day to forgive past lovers, move on from heartbreak, or rekindle old affections. At dawn, followers of Laska gather to bathe in sacred waters, symbolizing the washing away of past regrets. Newlyweds and new lovers are often blessed on this day, believing that love begun under the Crimson Dawn will burn brightly forever.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

The divine symbols of Laska reflect different aspects of love, its joy, sorrow, mystery, and intensity, ensuring that all who seek or suffer love find something within her domain.   The Burning Heart: A stylized heart entwined with thorned vines, engulfed in flickering flames. This symbol represents love’s dual nature, its warmth and passion, but also its potential for pain and destruction. The thorns symbolize the sacrifices made for love, while the flames signify desire, transformation, and the consuming power of passion.   The Crimson Rose With Falling Petals: A deep red rose with a few petals drifting away, often wreathed in golden or violet light. This emblem embodies fleeting love, beauty, longing, and the impermanence of passion. It is often associated with forbidden or tragic romances, as well as the bittersweet joy of love lost.   The Masked Kiss: Two figures locked in an embrace, their faces obscured by ornate masks. This sigil symbolizes hidden desires, secret affairs, and the mystery of love. It is often associated with star-crossed lovers, temptation, and the idea that true connection transcends identity or expectation.   The Infinity Knot Of Lovers: An endless looping knot shaped like two interwoven figures or flowing ribbons. This represents eternal love, destiny, and the unbreakable bonds between soulmates. While rare, those who believe in love that defies time and fate often revere this symbol.   The Whispering Flame: A delicate wisp of fire curling into the shape of a whispering mouth or a lover’s breath. This sigil is used to represent seduction, poetry, fleeting romance, and the power of words to ignite or destroy love. It is often invoked by bards, poets, and those who seek to sway hearts with words alone.

Religious Artifacts:

The Everflame Kiss: A magical pendant in the shape of a burning heart. It was crafted by the legendary bard-priestess Velmara, The Heartflame. The Everflame Kiss is said to ignite undying passion in the hearts of those who wear it. When gifted, it binds two souls together in irresistible attraction, ensuring they are drawn to one another across any distance. Some believe it grants eternal devotion, while others fear it creates a curse of obsession, making love inescapable even when it turns to sorrow. It is said that when two lovers who are truly meant for each other hold the pendant together, it glows with a soft crimson light, blessing their bond. However, in the hands of a scorned or vengeful soul, its glow darkens, and it can be used to curse another with unbearable longing that may never be fulfilled.   The Masque Of A Thousand Faces: This is an enchanted mask of smooth, white porcelain that shifts its features. It was created by the masked oracle Somarell, Of The Veil. This mystical mask allows the wearer to take on the ideal appearance of the viewers heart’s desire, transforming their features into what another finds most alluring. Used by lovers, spies, and seducers alike, the mask’s enchantment can bend the will of those who already harbor attraction, making them momentarily vulnerable to suggestion or passion. However, the mask has one fatal flaw, it cannot create love where none exists. If worn before someone who harbors no desire, it instead reflects the wearer’s own truest, most unguarded face, revealing them in a way even they may not recognize.   The Whispering Rose: This is a delicate, ever-blooming red rose that carries voices of lost lovers. It was grown and enchanted by the organization known as The Masked Devotion. This immortal rose holds within its petals the whispered confessions of lovers who died before they could be together. If held close, it is said that one can hear the final words of those who perished with love unfulfilled. Used in rituals, it can be placed upon a grave or set into a flowing river to send a message to a lost beloved, allowing those left behind to feel their presence one last time. It is often sought by those mourning a love that could never be or seeking closure for a broken heart. However, it is rumored that if stolen or desecrated, the voices within it turn to haunting wails, bringing misfortune and sorrow to the thief.   The Crimson Chime: This is a red and silver wind chime that rings only in the presence of true love. Said to be crafted by an unknown artisan devoted to Laska, and first appearing around 1,500 years ago. The Crimson Chime is a simple yet powerful artifact said to be enchanted by Laska herself. Hung in temples, homes, and hidden gardens, it remains silent unless two souls who share a true and deep love stand beneath it. When love is present, it sings with a melody like distant bells, filling the air with warmth and joy. It is often used in weddings or as a divination tool to test the depth of a bond. However, some claim that if the chime rings without cause, it is a warning that a great love is about to end, whether by fate, betrayal, or death.   The Lover’s Dagger: This is a red-hued, silver-bladed dagger with a ruby-inlaid hilt. It was crafted by Priestess Yillora of The Heart Renders, though some believe she was tricked by Laska into making it. Known as a blade of passion and tragedy, The Lover’s Dagger is enchanted so that any wound it inflicts will only be felt by the one who loves the victim most. Some believe it was created as a weapon of vengeance, others claim it was meant as a test of love’s resilience.   There are many tragic tales surrounding its use, one tells of a warrior who used it in battle, only for his beloved to collapse in agony miles away. Another legend speaks of a scorned lover using it on themselves to force their betrayer to feel their suffering. The dagger is both a blessing and a curse, a weapon that ensures love and pain are forever intertwined.

Worshipers Of Laska

The Crimson Curtain:  Is the largest and most recognized religious order devoted to Laska. More of a sanctuary than a formal church, it welcomes lovers, artists, and those seeking passion, operating within hidden temples, extravagant salons, and moonlit gardens. The clergy, known as Passioneers, serve as matchmakers, poets, and counselors, guiding souls toward true love or helping mend broken hearts. These sacred spaces are adorned with burning heart motifs, flowing silks, and eternal candles, representing the undying flame of passion. The Crimson Curtain teaches that love should never be forced or constrained, passion is sacred whether fleeting or eternal, and heartbreak is a lesson rather than a punishment.   The Masked Devotion:  Is a secretive order that thrives in the shadows of noble courts, hidden alleyways, and forbidden trysts. Believing that true love often exists in defiance of societal laws, the cult aids those who seek passion despite the constraints of duty, status, or tradition. Some members serve as confidants for star-crossed lovers, while others use their influence to undermine forced marriages, oppressive laws, or arranged unions. During sacred rituals, members wear ornate masks, symbolizing that love transcends identity. It is whispered that invoking Laska’s name in the right place may summon the Masked Devotion to aid those suffering from unfulfilled love.   The Burning Hearts:  Take devotion to Laska to an extreme, worshiping love’s most destructive and obsessive aspects. They believe true love is meant to consume, to burn, and to leave behind scars that prove its existence. For them, passion is not merely a blessing, it is a trial of fire. They engage in rituals where devotees must prove their devotion through acts of sacrifice, suffering, or acts of reckless desire. Some whisper of initiates offering their literal hearts to Laska in one final, burning gesture of devotion. Among their beliefs is the conviction that love is strongest when it consumes everything else, suffering is divine, and a life without love is a life wasted.

Opposition Of Laska

The Order Of The Chaste Rose:  Is a rigid, traditionalist sect that opposes Laska’s influence, seeing her as a corrupting force undermining loyalty, duty, and moral order. They promote the belief that love should be disciplined, stable, and free from reckless passion, favoring arranged marriages and traditions that enforce structure over emotion. Members of the Order actively work to suppress public displays of affection, break apart scandalous affairs, and enforce strict marital laws. They view the Crimson Curtain and Masked Devotion as dangerous heretics and hunt the Burning Hearts as a depraved cult. Their doctrine teaches that passion is fleeting, duty is eternal, and temptation is a weakness to be resisted.   The Heart Renders:  Are a militant order dedicated to purging the world of love’s “corrupting influence.” They believe that passion is a poison that blinds the mind and weakens the soul, leading to wars, betrayals, and the downfall of empires. Their followers undergo brutal trials to purge all emotions, severing ties to family, forsaking personal desires, and embracing a life of rigid self-discipline. They have been known to burn Crimson Curtain sanctuaries, expose hidden lovers, and “purify” those who act on passion through extreme means. The Heart Renders’s central belief is that only through suffering can one achieve true freedom, and that Laska’s influence must be eradicated from the world.

Rumors

The Eternal Lover: Some whisper that Laska once fell in love with a mortal, but when they died, she was so overcome with grief that she cursed herself never to love again. Others claim she still searches for a soul worthy of her devotion, appearing in different forms across history, testing the hearts of those she favors.   The God Who Stole Her Heart: A forbidden legend suggests that Laska once loved another god, perhaps a rival deity, a god of order, or even a being of destruction. Some say this love ended in betrayal, while others believe the god she loved still lingers in her realm, trapped between passion and regret.   The Night Of Burning Hearts: It is said that Laska herself walks among mortals on this sacred night, disguised as a masked dancer, whispering temptations into the ears of those who hesitate in love. Those who listen find their desires fulfilled, those who resist are doomed to regret what they never dared to pursue.   The First Heartbreak: A few scholars claim that Laska was not always a goddess of passion and longing but was once a divine being of unity and harmony. Only after experiencing a great betrayal did she become the chaotic force of love, heartbreak, and desire that she is now.   Her True Name Is Forbidden: Some cults believe that "Laska" is only the name mortals know, and that she has a true, divine name that has been lost to time. It is said that whoever speaks it will either be granted an eternal love, or cursed with a longing they can never fulfill.   The Lovers' Curse: In hushed tones, it is rumored that Laska sometimes punishes those who take love for granted. Some believe she curses those who betray their lovers to forever chase love but never find fulfillment. Others claim she ensures that those who scorn passion will experience their greatest love only after it is too late.   The Crimson Rose Of The Eversway: It is said that hidden deep in The Eversway, Laska’s ever-shifting divine realm, there is a single perfect crimson rose. Those who find it and offer it to another will be bound together for eternity, whether in love, tragedy, or obsession depends on Laska’s whims.
"Laska’s gift is not love itself, but the courage to embrace it, whether it lifts you to the heavens or shatters you upon the rocks. To love is to risk, and she blesses only those bold enough to take the leap."
— Priestess Jaelira of the Crimson Curtain
