Order of the Iron Scale
The Order of the Iron Scale is a revered institution devoted to upholding the sacred tenets of justice, law, and honor as dictated by the teachings of Lonas, the Iron Judge. Established in the early days of Dolviar’s history, the Order serves as both a judicial body and a martial force, wielding divine authority to bring order to a chaotic world. Its symbol—a balanced scale superimposed over a crossed sword and shield—reflects its dual purpose: to adjudicate with impartiality and to enforce justice with strength and discipline. Rooted in the Code of the Just, a divine mandate written under Lonas's guidance, the Order’s presence is a cornerstone of Dolviar’s legal and moral framework.
The Order’s hierarchy is as structured and disciplined as its philosophy. Guided by the Justicar-General and the High Council of the Scale, its ranks include Justicars who act as both judges and enforcers, Shieldbearers who safeguard the innocent, and Lawkeepers who interpret and disseminate the Code of the Just. The Order's fortified temples serve as centers of worship, courts of law, and strongholds against those who seek to destabilize the balance of society. Their influence extends into every corner of Dolviar, ensuring that rulers adhere to principles of fairness and that even the most powerful are held accountable to the law.
Despite its noble purpose, the Order of the Iron Scale is not without challenges. The silence of Lonas after the Great War of the Gods has left its members grappling with uncertainty, relying on their own judgment to uphold the divine principles once directly guided by their deity. This has created a fertile ground for both internal dissent and external criticism, with some factions advocating stricter interpretations of the law and others calling for a more compassionate approach. Nonetheless, the Order remains steadfast, a symbol of resilience and unyielding dedication to the ideals of justice and order in a fractured world.

Divine Origins
The teachings of Lonas began among early warrior-judges who sought to bring order to Dolviar’s lawless regions. These teachings were codified into the Code of the Just, a divine mandate that evolved into a foundational legal text for much of Dolviar’s governance.
Cosmological Views
The world, in the Order’s teachings, is a battleground of order and chaos. Lonas created the laws of existence to prevent reality from descending into anarchy. Every soul is judged upon death, its worth measured by adherence to the Code of the Just.
The afterlife is divided into:
The Eternal Court: Where souls are judged and either ascend to serve as eternal guardians of law or are sent to realms of punishment for their transgressions.
The Fields of Balance: A resting place for those who upheld justice in life.
Tenets of Faith
Justice Is Impartial: No individual, regardless of rank or power, is above the law.
Honor in Conflict: War and combat must be conducted with fairness and discipline, avoiding cruelty and deceit.
Duty to the Law: It is the sacred responsibility of all followers to uphold and protect the Code of the Just.
Truth Above All: Lies and deceit are acts of betrayal against the very fabric of order.
Balance in Judgment: Decisions must be made with the greater good and the balance of society in mind.
Ethics
Pious Acts: Adherence to the law, protection of the innocent, and acts of fair judgment.

Granted Divine Powers
Truthseer’s Gaze Level 3: The character can cast Zone of Truth once per long rest without expending a spell slot. Additionally, they gain advantage on Insight checks to detect lies or discern intent.
Shield of Justice Level 5: As a reaction, the character can invoke divine protection to shield an ally. The ally gains temporary hit points equal to the character’s level and resistance to one damage type (chosen by the character) until the start of their next turn. Usable once per short or long rest.
Judgment of Binding Level 7: The character can channel Lonas’s will to impose a binding judgment on a creature. This functions similarly to the Hold Person spell, but the target is restrained rather than paralyzed, and it works on any creature type. Usable once per long rest.
Guidance of the Arbiter Level 10: When facing moral uncertainty or a critical decision, the character can invoke Lonas’s guidance. They can ask a single yes/no question to determine the morally just course of action (similar to Divination but limited to moral outcomes). Usable once per long rest.
Verdict of the Iron Judge Level 14: The character channels the divine power of Lonas to pass a binding verdict on a foe. As an action, the character targets one creature within 60 feet, forcing it to make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, the creature is subject to a magical verdict (choose one effect):
Guilt: The creature has disadvantage on attack rolls and saving throws for 1 minute.
Reparations: The creature loses all resistance to damage for 1 minute.
Remorse: The creature cannot willingly attack or harm others for 1 minute.
This ability is usable once per long rest.
Political Influence & Intrigue
The Order is deeply intertwined with Dolviar’s political structure, often acting as mediators in disputes between rulers.
Their influence ensures that laws are just and that rulers adhere to the principles of honor and fairness. However, their strict adherence to justice sometimes leads to conflicts with those seeking more flexible interpretations of the law.
Sects
The Blindfolded Council:
- A radical sect that believes in total impartiality, advocating for the removal of all emotion from justice.
- Seen as overly rigid and lacking compassion by mainstream followers.
The Scales of Retribution:
- Focused on delivering swift and severe punishment to those who break the law.
- Criticized for prioritizing vengeance over balance and fairness.
The Order of Equilibrium:
- A pacifist branch emphasizing mediation and conflict avoidance over combat.
- Respected for their wisdom but seen as impractical in times of war.
