Types of Magic

Magic can be divided into types with overlap between them.   Arcane Arcane magic is considered the most stable form of magic by its users. Its mastery takes years of intense studying of the natural laws of the Weave. The Weave is a massive system of trillions of magical currents flowing throughout the planes of existence. Wizards tap into this power source and channel it into their spells. Some creatures are born with the natural ability to tap into the Weave, others are gifted the ability through sheer happenstance.   Extraplanar Extraplanar magic starts on a plane other than the Prime Material and makes it way there through pathways harnessed by its user. The source of a cleric's holy fire and a cultist's eldritch blast both come from an entity on another plane. However, another entity is not necessary to use the magic of other planes. Some sorcerers can naturally connect themselves to an elemental plane to unleash a spell of its respective element.    Natural Nature itself is thought to be a source of druidic powers. A druid may worship a great tree in their forest and receive magical abilities as a result.   Innate Some creatures are born a natural magic battery. Some dragons, for instance, have the natural ability to cast spells or activate certain effects.   Spoken Certain magic can be called upon through spoken word. This is most commonly found found in Bards capable of playing music so enchanting, it literally enchants. A Paladin's oath is also example of this magic, usually empowered further by an extraplanar entity.
