Tharizdun, the Eater of Worlds

Tharizdun (a.k.a. The Chained God)

Tharizdun, the Chained God, is a being of cosmic nihilism and unrelenting entropy—an Elder Evil whose name is spoken only in the most fearful whispers. He is the embodiment of annihilation, the end of all things, the cold, devouring void that lies beyond not just death, but unbeing. Unlike fiends, gods, or even other Elder Evils who seek power, domination, or transformation, Tharizdun desires only one thing: the unmaking of reality itself.

Imprisoned since the dawn of time by a rare alliance of gods and cosmic forces, Tharizdun is bound on a hidden demiplane, his prison warded by divine seals, eternal guardians, and the very laws of existence. Yet despite these restraints, his corrupting influence leaks into the multiverse, twisting minds, spawning cults, and planting the seeds of doom in forgotten corners of the world. His symbol—a black spiral rune, descending inward into nothingness—is a sign of despair and ruin, known to sages as the mark of the end.

Tharizdun’s origin is a subject of grim speculation. Some believe he was once a god of creation or knowledge who gazed too deeply into the true void and was undone by what he saw. Others claim he is not a god at all, but a primordial sentience from outside the multiverse, antithetical to existence itself. Whatever his origin, his mind is now alien, unknowable, and driven by a singular obsession: to unravel the fabric of the multiverse until nothing remains.

His worshippers are few but fanatically devoted, often forming nihilistic cults that operate in secret. These cultists are drawn from the broken, the mad, and the desperate—those who have given up on life and seek release in oblivion. They spread corruption, instigate apocalyptic events, and seek ancient relics or rituals that might weaken Tharizdun’s chains. Some even believe that destroying the world is a sacred act of mercy, freeing it from the pain of being.

The gods fear Tharizdun above all. His mere awakening could unravel the Weave of magic, silence the planes, and plunge the multiverse into a silent, starless void. Even powerful archfiends and abominations dare not speak his name, lest he hear them across the gulfs of his prison.

Though his body is bound, his thoughts drift, whispering promises of power, doom, and understanding into the minds of those who dare to listen. In dark temples buried beneath the earth, in cursed tomes, and in the dreams of the damned, Tharizdun waits. He does not rage against his bonds—he erodes them, patient as eternity, certain that in the end, all things return to nothing.
