Negative Plane
The Negative Plane—also known as the Negative Energy Plane—is the dark mirror to creation, a cosmic void of unbeing, antipathy, and entropy. It lies beneath the multiverse like an upturned bowl, a place from which all necrotic energy originates and through which life itself can be unmade. Where the Positive Plane radiates vitality and growth, the Negative Plane draws in all warmth, all light, all motion—leaving only stillness, hunger, and undeath.
The Negative Plane is a realm of utter blackness, not merely dark but lightless in its essence. Vision, even magical, falters. Sound vanishes into the airless void. Time seems to stretch without meaning. There is no solid ground, no sky, no boundaries—only an oppressive emptiness that swallows presence and drains the soul.
To enter the plane unprotected is to feel one’s life force being siphoned away, second by second, until nothing remains but a husk. The plane’s very fabric is inimical to life, and even immortals must guard themselves against its hunger. Only beings sustained by necrotic energy or utterly devoid of life can dwell here for long.
The core of the Negative Plane is its necrotic energy—an unnatural force that unravels the threads of vitality. This energy animates the undead, fuels curses and necromancy, and anchors the absence of being. Rather than destruction through violence or chaos, this is destruction through negation: the reversal of life, the undoing of motion, the erasure of form.
The Negative Plane is not chaos or evil in itself—it is anti-existence, a cosmic necessity opposite to creation. It does not hate, but it devours.
The Negative Plane touches the Shadowfell and suffuses certain lower planes, like Hades or Thanatos, with its influence. Portals are exceedingly rare and often formed as side effects of catastrophic necromantic rituals, divine curses, or ancient undead machinations.
To understand the Negative Plane is to confront the truth that not all ends are violent—some are simply absence, the quiet extinguishing of the flame. It is the final destination for unliving energy, the wellspring of the undead’s hunger, and the shadow beneath the foundation of the multiverse. It is not death—it is unlife, unbeing, and the cold silence that lies after.
Fauna & Flora
Few entities dwell here, but those that do are often beings of immense power and deathly influence:
- Undead of cosmic stature, such as nightwalkers, undead gods, and deathless titans, are drawn to or spawned from the plane.
- Necromantic entities, like the enigmatic Entropic Reavers or void liches, may seek power here, but often risk obliteration.
- Strange gravitational anomalies and zones of entropic collapse drift through the void, breaking down magic, matter, and meaning itself.
