Mother Lorinda

Lorinda Mindefisk (a.k.a. Mother)

Lorinda Mindefisk, the Darklord of Tepest, is a withered green hag of ancient cunning who cloaks her monstrous nature in the trappings of twisted motherhood. She rules from behind the mask of Mother, a kindly matron idolized by her isolated followers in Viktal. Yet beneath the smile and homespun wisdom lies a predator whose love is as suffocating as it is manipulative.

Lorinda’s home, the Gurgyl, is a living house, a walking cottage powered by her imprisoned sisters—Laveeda and Leticia—whose bodies churn eternally within a vast fat-black cauldron. Their trapped spirits give the Gurgyl life, and their torment feeds Lorinda’s craft.

  • The Gurgyl moves on gnarled root-legs, creaking like a dead tree, and can vanish into the forest in moments.
  • Inside, it smells of herbs, old parchment, and something vaguely rotten. The walls pulse like skin, and the cauldron groans with voices.

When Lorinda closes Tepest's borders, the mists twist with lullabies, the trees whisper with unseen voices, and the roads turn to thickets. Travelers lose time, wandering in endless loops while voices coo in their ears, promising love, warmth, and family—until they are never seen again.

Lorinda's curse is her compulsion: to be a mother to all, whether they want it or not. She craves love, obedience, and adoration, but she cannot help but corrupt, dominate, and destroy everything she draws close. She is incapable of nurturing without devouring.

Her maternal affection masks a deep emptiness, one that grows more ravenous with every “child” she loses or consumes.

Lorinda Mindefisk is the Darklord of Tepest—a green hag in grandmother’s garb, warping faith, love, and folklore into a cycle of sacrifice and monstrous motherhood.

Tenets of Faith

The people of Viktal, isolated and fearful of the fae-haunted wilds, worship Mother as a goddess of bounty and protection. This worship is a trap: Lorinda demands rustic art, songs, and sacrifices, using folk traditions to mask her control.

  • Each season, a “Chosen” is selected—a child sacrificed to ensure the community’s prosperity. The villagers convince themselves the act is holy. Lorinda devours the Chosen in secret or uses them in her hideous magic.
  • Her most loyal followers become “blessed children”—monstrous constructs of sticks, bone, and fur animated by her grim enchantments and the souls of her victims.

Personal history

Once a gift from the fey to a lonely woman, Lorinda—along with her sisters Laveeda and Leticia—was never meant to be a blessing. From the moment they learned magic at the feet of the strange, cruel fae that haunt the woods, the three sisters gave themselves over to hunger, cruelty, and domination.

Now the sole free Mindefisk sister, Lorinda rules Tepest through deception, ritual, and fear, donning the guise of Mother to veil the predator within.

  • She appears as a bent, matronly figure in patchwork shawls and flower crowns, her gnarled green fingers never still as she weaves, stirs, or pets the heads of her “children.”
  • Her eyes glow faintly in the dark, and her smile never quite reaches her eyes.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Lorinda longs for more children—not through love, but through dominance and control. She weaves new “sons and daughters” from animal carcasses, sticks, and animated refuse, crafting golem-like beings to serve her will.

  • Each creation is named, coddled, and praised—even as Lorinda uses them as tools and shields.
  • She speaks of her creations with doting affection, offering praise for their loyalty or scolding them like a disappointed schoolmarm.
