Kas the Betrayer

Kas the Betrayer is a name spoken with dread and fascination across the multiverse, a figure steeped in blood, shadow, and bitter legend. Once the most trusted lieutenant of Vecna, the Whispered One, Kas rose from humble origins to become a warlord of terrifying skill, a vampire of immense power, and the wielder of a blade that would shake the foundations of undeath and godhood alike.

A cursed vampire lord driven by betrayal and vengeance, Kas the Betrayer is an eternal blade in Vecna’s side—ruler of shadows and architect of divine downfall.

Once the right hand of Vecna, Kas rose in power, ambition, and pride—until he turned on his master, plunging the artifact blade now known as the Sword of Kas into the lich’s withered heart. Whether he succeeded in slaying Vecna or merely triggering a mutual cataclysm is unclear, but in the aftermath, the Dark Powers claimed Kas, binding him to Tovag.

Now, Kas is a vampire warlord cloaked in armor blackened with dried blood. He is a brilliant tactician, a charismatic tyrant, and a creature of unrelenting fury. He still believes Vecna survives, and his every campaign is launched under the belief that the next portal, the next enemy, the next betrayal, might lead him back to his old master to finish the job.

But the Stone Ring lies to him. Each gate it opens is a mirage, each victory a hollow echo, each general he trusts fated to betray him—just as he betrayed Vecna.

Personal history

Kas was not always a traitor. In the height of Vecna’s mortal reign—a time when the arch-lich ruled vast domains through fear and necromancy—Kas served as his most loyal and efficient general. His martial prowess was unmatched; his campaigns brutal and efficient. To reward this loyalty and secure his dominance, Vecna gifted Kas with a powerful magical weapon: the Sword of Kas, a sentient blade forged in darkness and imbued with the power to slay even the undying.

But the sword carried a will of its own—ambitious, cruel, and insidious. It whispered to Kas of betrayal, of power unclaimed, of a master who could be overthrown. Whether by the sword’s manipulation, Vecna’s own paranoia, or Kas’s smoldering pride, the bond of trust shattered in an act of titanic treachery.

In a battle that legends say split the sky and scorched the earth, Kas turned on Vecna, striking down his master and severing Vecna’s hand and eye—the only remnants of the lich to survive the cataclysm. Though neither was truly destroyed, that moment marked the fall of Vecna's empire and the birth of Kas’s own dark myth.

In the aftermath, Kas vanished from the mortal world, said to have ascended—or descended—into the Shadowfell or another forgotten plane, where he rules over a bleak, vampiric dominion. There, he is a tyrant-king, surrounded by legions of undead and knights who pledge loyalty in blood and fear. His vampirism, once a gift or curse from Vecna himself, has only deepened over the ages, making him a creature of terrifying hunger and immortal malice.

Kas despises Vecna with a passion bordering on obsession. He seeks not only to destroy his former master utterly but to erase him from all memory and existence, claiming Vecna’s divine spark for himself. Across the planes, agents of Kas scheme to unravel Vecna’s cults, desecrate his relics, and assassinate his high priests. The animosity between them has become more than rivalry—it is a cosmic vendetta, echoing through centuries of undeath.

The Sword of Kas still exists, a weapon of legend and damnation. It has changed hands countless times, always bringing ruin and betrayal in its wake. Those who wield it risk not only their souls, but the attention of its original master, who may still seek to reclaim it—or see it destroy yet another would-be tyrant.
