Darcalus Rex

Darcalus Rex

Darcalus Rex is a nightmare given form—an ancient, sentient mass of corrupted blood and lingering ambition, known to some as a necrichor. Whether he is truly the legendary wizard-king who ruled Darkon before Azalin, or merely a parasitic echo infused with stolen memories, is a mystery even the most learned dread to pursue too closely. What is certain is this: the entity called Darcalus is real, and he remembers ruling.

Summoned through a heretical blend of alchemical ritual and prophetic trance by the mystic Cardinna Artazas, Darcalus first manifested as a slick, coiling torrent of crimson ichor rising from the sacred waters of Nevuchar Springs. His voice—if it can be called that—oozes directly into the minds of those nearby, whispering with regal disdain and impossible familiarity.

A living tide of cursed blood and ambition, Darcalus Rex claims a crown lost to time and offers truth stained with madness.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Darcalus Rex appears as a levitating, writhing mass of sentient blood, occasionally assuming a vaguely humanoid silhouette wreathed in arcane symbols that seem to float like oil atop his surface. Faces—some ancient, some recent—rise and sink within his mass, mouths gasping silently as if drowned in memory. His form leaves no shadow, but the air around him chills and shimmers as though reality itself recoils.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

In life—or so the tale goes—Darcalus was the first tyrant to unify the warring territories that would become Darkon, ruling with terrifying arcane power and unflinching cruelty. Some claim that Azalin himself overthrew Darcalus, burying his name in obscurity out of fear or disdain. Others whisper that Darcalus was a construct all along, a puppet of darker gods, or perhaps a prototype for what Azalin would later become.

But Darcalus claims otherwise.

According to the entity, he was betrayed, was devoured, and was forgotten—and now, bathed in the echoes of the land's unraveling, he returns. Whether this is truth, delusion, or disinformation planted by a force with a darker origin remains open to dread speculation.

Social

Mannerisms

  • Imperious & Detached: Darcalus speaks like a monarch whose court has long since crumbled into ash. He refers to mortals as “the dustborn” and rarely grants others the dignity of proper names.
  • Apathetic to Survival: He holds no loyalty to Darkon and sees the land’s decay as fitting punishment for forgetting its “true master.” Whether it survives or dies is of no concern to him.
  • Obsessed with Legacy: Despite his nihilism, Darcalus burns with an unnatural desire to be remembered. He offers power, secrets, and prophecy—but all in exchange for tribute, blood, or the preservation of his myth.
  • Untrustworthy & Alien: His intelligence is vast but erratic. He might offer ancient truths or send followers to ruin. His memories contradict recorded history, and his motivations seem as fluid as his form.
