Physically, Boo resembles a plump, golden-furred hamster that fits easily into a pocket or pauldron, complete with twitching whiskers and dark, curious eyes. He squeaks, sniffs, and occasionally nibbles, like any hamster might. But those who underestimate Boo do so at their peril.

According to Minsc, Boo is “a miniature giant space hamster,” a statement that confuses more than it clarifies. In truth, these creatures are a magically engineered race, believed to be a genetically reduced form of true giant space hamsters, massive beasts once bred as living engines for gnomish spelljammers. Miniatures, like Boo, are rare, clever, and unusually perceptive—even psychic, some claim.

Boo’s fame is inseparable from that of his longtime partner, Minsc of Rashemen, a berserker with a heart of gold and a brain full of chaos. He has been known to bite, glare, and once, possibly, pilot a spelljammer vessel (the stories vary wildly in detail and plausibility).
