Acererak
Acererak (a.k.a. The Soul-Eater; Architect of Doom)
Acererak is a name that sends shivers through the hearts of sages, adventurers, and archmages alike—a name spoken only in whispers, or not at all. He is one of the most feared entities in the multiverse: a demilich, a withered echo of a once-living sorcerer whose malice has outlived his flesh, and whose schemes reach far beyond the tomb he left behind.
Acererak is the mirror of mortal ambition—twisted into eternal hunger. He is what lies at the end of the path for those who seek power without limit, mastery without mercy. And if his eyes—if they can still be called that—should ever fall upon the world again in full force, even the gods may not be safe.

Personal history
Once a mortal of human descent, Acererak was born to a vile lineage, the bastard child of a human woman and a demonic being—some say a balor lord. From the very beginning, he was marked by the taint of the Abyss and the hunger for forbidden knowledge. He studied necromancy not as a tool, but as a path to ultimate liberation—from death, from weakness, from all mortal constraints.
He ascended through the ranks of dark lore, surpassing mortal boundaries to become a lich: an immortal wizard bound to undeath through powerful rituals and a soul-anchoring phylactery. As a lich, Acererak wrought devastation across countless lands. His cruelty knew no limits; he did not conquer for wealth or dominion, but for souls—to study, to shatter, and to consume.
Eventually, even the physicality of lichdom became a prison to Acererak. With meticulous preparation, he cast aside his physical form to become a demilich, a state of pure arcane will. All that remains of his body is a jeweled skull, encrusted with soul-bound gems and protected by wards few living mages could fathom, let alone break.
In this state, Acererak is no longer bound to a single world. He is a cosmic predator, traveling across planes, feeding on the life force of powerful beings, and weaving vast, centuries-spanning schemes that no mortal mind can fully comprehend. Where others seek to rule, Acererak seeks only annihilation and transformation—to become something closer to a god of entropy than a sorcerer of the dead.
Accomplishments & Achievements
- The Tomb of Horrors: His most infamous construct, hidden deep in the Vast Swamp. It lures the proud and the curious to their deaths, feeding Acererak's essence and preserving his legend.
- The Tomb of Annihilation: Another cruel experiment, a cursed domain designed to siphon souls and bring entire civilizations to their knees.
- Planar Constructions: Rumors abound of tombs and death-labyrinths in other worlds and planes, all echoing his original design—each adapted to its own environment, each waiting to ensnare.
Intellectual Characteristics
Acererak is not mindless; far from it. He is a cold, hyper-intelligent force of calculation. He believes all things—even gods—are ultimately vulnerable to knowledge, time, and death. He tests the boundaries of mortality through intricate design, often by constructing trap-laden death-mazes such as the Tomb of Horrors, not out of vanity, but as experiments. Each adventurer who dies within serves as both sacrifice and data point in Acererak’s ongoing study of soul mechanics, mortality, and willpower.
To him, suffering is information. Fear, an efficient tool. Souls, a resource.
Social
Contacts & Relations
Acererak rarely acts directly, but his presence is felt in any land where grave robbers, treasure hunters, or seekers of immortality tread too deep. Cults devoted to him spring up in dark corners, spreading his philosophies of death-worship and entropy. His agents—undead, constructs, or enthralled mortals—work tirelessly to enact his hidden will.
He is not a conqueror in the traditional sense. Acererak wages war against life itself, not with armies, but with puzzles, curses, and soul traps. He is a godless god, thriving on arrogance, consuming the daring, and perpetually building new ways to test and torment the living.
