Palace of Saeyal

Under Construction

Don't mind the blatant work in progress as I rewrite and organize this article

A wonder to behold, the palace in Saeyal sits on a hilltop, overlooking the city. Characterised by simply shaped structures that hold immensely intricate decorations inside. If someone told you to go to it, you might struggle to find the exact entrance but as long as you were within or in sight of Saeyal, you certainly couldn't miss it.   Inside the complex it is an airy feeling place, made of sand coloured stone and filled with light. There are many inner gardens and courtyards. The buildings have a stacked appearance as higher floors with balustrades overlook the inner courtyards and gardens. Often these latter are surrounded by open corridors, separated only by columns or with many archways into the garden, so folk can shelter from the rain without going fully indoors. The main ooms sit behind these corridors. Sleeping quarters are generally upstairs, in closed rooms, but in summer people may sleep out on the balustrades.   The residence of the rulers of Saeyal has always been located on [HILL NAME], but the palace is much newer than the city. It is sufficiently old for the main building to have been extended twice. The oldest section was constructed almost 230 years ago and the old residence was pulled down for it, making the new building an extravagance from the very start (although they did reuse the materials where possible).   Although not much used or manned now, the palace is surrounded by older fortified walls and even the new barracks still sit at the entrance. When the city was smaller, the populace could shelter inside the walls in the case of an attack. The new palace wasn't built with the intention of great defensibility however, as Demul has become a specialist in warding magic. Besides, outright war has become a rarity in the region. The rulers trust rather to the size of the city, the outlying defences and their magic.   Throughout the region, the palace of Saeyal is best known for its gardens and courtyards but especially for the magnificently carved decorations and frescoes. Both geometric patterns and depictions of plants and animals abound throughout. High ceilings with many small windows let the light into the rooms which bounces off the intricate decorations that cover the walls and ceiling. The artistry and overall pleasant aspect of the palace have made it a symbol of the wealth and stability of Demul, which draws many kinds of specialists to its capital.
