Eastern Maelstroms

The channel between the first of the eastern islands and the mainland enjoys a dangerous reputation, especially the eastern end. Although not on its doorstep, one can tell that they're drawing close to a fae-rich area. And even though the magic-rich area's at either end make them lucrative and interesting area's, it hardly decreases the risks of the channel.   Unlike the quiet water of the great bay and lagoon beyond, the seawater surges through the channel with an unexpected force and maelstroms are prone to occurring at its eastern end as the water meets the slow current coming in from the sea.   Though they can be deceptively calm in their appearance, these whirlpools are responsible for more than a few deaths especially when deep ones form.
