Continents

There are, currently, four known continents in the world of Divaan. Three of which are considered the Known World, and one of which occupies the New World.

The Known World

Irulia

A smaller but much denser continent, Irulia is a land rife with conflict and considered the ancestral homeland of the humans.

Lupala

The lost elven homeland, Lupala is a broken continent that has been left scarred and wholly incapable of supporting all but the hardiest forms of life.

Temenere

A large continent that supports a diverse array of cultures, peoples, and landscapes.

The New World

Farrdethiya

The largest continent yet to be discovered in Divaan, Farrdethiya was discovered in the year 1287 by a lost trade caravan from the Kheravazan Empire. Since the return of this caravan, word spread and soon more expeditions were sent out to explore deeper into the continent. Very few survivors ever remain from the Farrdethiyan expeditions. The continent is strange, with a violent and alien ecosystem. Not only that, it's sheer distance from all other continents makes even the journey there a difficult endeavor.

For a time, Kheravaz began sending the convicted to the continent and forced them to serve their sentence by attempting explorations into the continent. These chained explorers are the ones who discovered the Dethiyan Isles, which proved to be far less hostile to life than the continent proper. Soon, official colony ships made up of willing individuals set out to settle the islands, which proved fruitful and eventually established the trade routes now known as the Whale Road across the seas.

These new colonies brought with them all kinds of exotic new cargo, from new fruits and trees to new animals, new spices, new metals, even. Eventually, however, these merchant colonies changed. Stories on what exactly caused the turn are muddy and unclear, for the Empire enjoys painting them as wicked and greedy souls, whereas individuals from the colonies claim bitterness and hatred for how the Empire neglected the colonies, to some folktales saying the natives of the isles bewitched the colonists. Regardless, the oldest and largest colonies of the Dethiyan Isles are now pirate republics, reaving along the seas of the New and Old Worlds.
