Caldwell High

Caldwell High School, colloquially known as Caldwell High, is a public high school in Cape St. Joan, Oregon, United States. It is located in Riverside.   Most students enrolled here come from East End and Riverside. The school has a reputation as a very modern campus, though it lacks the extravagant funding of private schools.   A persistent rumour has it that a majority of the high school aged members of the Capes youth outreach program attends Caldwell.

Architecture

The buildings on campus are mostly made of steel and glass, and clad in blue frontage. With wide beams and huge windowframes, it has a very modern look compared to most other schools. The inside architecture features many suspended staircases and a very "open" feel to many of its halls and corridors, with classroom walls towards the corridors made of wood frames and toned glass rather than 'proper' walls.   The main building is three storeys high at the centre, with the two-storey high wings left and right being covered by a sloping roof extending from the middle. Behind the main building is a sports field and gym, as well as a small lab building, focused on aiding the teaching of the sciences.   Being located in East End, the school also features a lot of open areas on campus, with some greenery and benches to rest during breaks.

History

Built in 2012 and commencing operation the following year, Caldwell High was named after Cape St. Joan mayor Neville Caldwell (1932-2005). It very quickly rose in enrollment numbers as it relieved the surrounding schools of excess students. It has since grown into the city's second largest school.
