Introduction to the Universal Forces

In the vast expanse of Dionis' universe, a set of fundamental rules and constants shapes the very fabric of reality. Within this framework, any being can navigate and ascend the echelons of power established by the universe's forces.   In the expansive framework of Dionis, the fundamental forces are classified into five distinct branches of design. Among these, four are characterized as inherently "magic," signifying their derivation from power beyond the material plane. These magical branches include Arcane, Primal, Divine, and Esotera, the latter commonly referred to as the Supernatural branch. The fifth branch is designated as Science, encompassing the study and application of techniques based within the material realm on Dionis.  

Magic Forces:

  While the four magical branches may exhibit similar characteristics in their applications, their specific distinctions arise from the place their power is drawn from. Each branch possesses a unique nature, but a common thread binds them: a semi-consciousness inherent to the magical forces. This semi-conscious essence imparts a distinct will to each force, guiding its actions in accordance with its own inherent nature.   The origins of these forces remain uncharted, yet their natures have faced scrutiny since the Dark Ages. This examination has yielded a basic history and profile for each force, unveiling insights into how they respond when subjected to constraints challenging their inherent nature.   The profiles and histories of Arcana, Primal, and Divine forces are centralized within figures known as The Big Three. Typically powerful beings in Arcana, Primal, or Divine magics, they bear the title of the true name of the Big Three, granting them substantial control over their respective forces and allowing them to explore the source from which their force draws power. Allowing the being bearing the title of the Big Three to rewrite the rules of how their force operates.  

Esoteric Force:

  What defines an Esoteric or Supernatural creature? While for most creatures things tend to be more straightforward for categorizing, with arcane creatures emitting or using arcane magic likewise to the other forces, Supernatural creatures are categorized not by their connection to an embodied conscious. Supernatural creatures must have the three following conditions:

• Dual Nature:
Existence in both the mortal and supernatural realms. The location of the realms connected to the supernatural domain are unknown, however supernatural creatures typically will go through two phases of existence one on the material and then finally one in the far realms asscociated with the creature.
• Spectral Discernment:
When a being comes connected to the Esoteric force they become able to see spirits. Though there are many ways of which a ghost can be made, most are simply creatures that navigate the Ethereal Plane. Fit with their own personalities and abilities they seem to be a faction only Esoteric adorned individuals can perceive.
• Shared Weakness:
All supernatural creataures are susceptable to iron, wound made with iron weapons are unable to heal without external remedies, nullifying most innate healing supernatural creatures have. Cold-Iron is a form of iron sculpted without flame or heat, if a supernatural creature comes into contact with Cold-Iron then they immediately react causing either deformity and nullification of abilities.

  Esotera's consciousness is unlike the rest of the Magic Forces, its semi-consciousness is spread between all creatures that roam under the domain of supernatural. Supernatural beings such as vampires, werewolves, ghosts, gargoyles, witches, warlocks, devils, and demons belong to the domain of the supernatural, and they commonly share certain abilities and vulnerabilities. However, it's important to note that each specific supernatural creature may possess additional unique strengths and weaknesses   Within the realm of Esoteric creatures, there are two common methods for obtaining an augmentation of power beyond their usual capabilities. These methods are often viewed as pathways to ascend the hierarchy of the supernatural domain. Some pursue these avenues for the sheer thrill of acquiring more power, while others do it to combat the inherent duality of their existence. Many individuals and creatures in the domain believe that amassing such power might grant them the ability to manipulate their destiny to their advantage.  

• Coven Method:
Esoteric creatures, having a fragment of the force's collective consciousness within them, possess a unique method of gaining power. By forming a group with other supernatural beings, their presence strengthens their connection to the Esoteric force. This allows them to access abilities that are typically beyond the reach of ordinary creatures in their domain. It's common for creatures of the same kind to congregate in such groups, but the key lies in the shared connection to the Esoteric Force rather than being exclusively composed of similar supernatural creatures. This unity amplifies their collective power and unlocks extraordinary capabilities.
• Oblivoration Method:
The method of Oblivoration is regarded as one of the most cruel and violent acts that an Esoteric creature can commit. To Oblivorate, a supernatural being must sever their connections to other supernatural creatures and instead opt to assimilate power for personal growth. This process involves directing their abilities not toward the target's physical form but rather at their soul, inflicting wounds beyond the scope of the physical realm. The wounded creature experiences damage akin to being assailed by iron, exploiting their typical weaknesses and capitalizing on common vulnerabilities. As the target accumulates enough damage, their soul is forcibly torn from their body, and the attacker consumes their Esoteric essence, resulting in a substantial increase in strength. However, once the act is completed, the creature can no longer draw power from groups, and must continue to Oblivorate if they wish to continue growing in power. The only way to overcome this cannibalistic compulsion to Oblivorate is to release the collective power derived from this method, risking the loss of their connection to the Esoteric force altogether. The victim of Oblivoration is condemned to roam the material plane as a tormented ghost for the foreseeable future, unless some external force intervenes and endeavors to restore the ghost to their former self.

 

Forces of Science:

  The Forces of Sciences encompass a wide array of theories, ideas, practices, and principles that operate independently of any central embodiment. Unlike the other Magic Forces, there is no singular embodiment of Science. Instead, it is a collective term for the contributions of inventors, innovators, and scientists who have unveiled aspects of the natural world that do not rely on magical influence. In the realm of Dionis, where various forms of magical technology exist, only four branches of science remain rooted in the material realm: Chronology, Graviturgy, Alchemy, and Electricity.  

• Chronology:

The study of time, often referred to as Chronoturgy by scholars and mages, is among the most captivating branches of science. It is frequently paired with divination magic, as diviners aim to pinpoint specific future events they desire to foresee. On the other hand, Chronology scholars are less concerned with reaching particular destinations in time and focus more on understanding the fundamental rules governing time itself.Some scholars specializing in Chronology delve into complex subjects, such as "variant" timelines, where different events could drastically alter the course of Dionis history. These researchers may even attempt advance into other timelines, bringing back with them notes of the changes and what initiated their trek into history.
• Graviturgy:
The study of Graviturgy delves into the manipulation of the inherent weight carried by objects and beings within the realm. This manipulation can have profound effects on the items or individuals, making Graviturgy a practical and highly relevant field of study. It finds frequent application in various practical occupations and everyday life, particularly in the realm of transportation and manufacturing, where the understanding of gravity has greatly improved efficiency.Graviturgy is believed to have originated from the knowledge passed down by cloud giants, and over time, it has been further developed and refined by a diverse group of scientists and influential transmutation mages. The study of Graviturgy has thus played a vital role in making modern living more feasible and advancing the fields of transportation and manufacturing.
• Alchemy:
Alchemy, the professional blending of natural ingredients, metals, and organic components, stands as one of the oldest scientific disciplines, dating back to the Dark Ages. While it may have waned in prominence over time, it continues to hold significant value across various fields. Alchemy finds applications in pharmaceuticals, architecture, and smithing, contributing to the development and advancement of these industries.Despite the decrease in its prevalence, alchemy remains invaluable in academic studies, as alchemy scholars can discover vital information about resistances, strengths, and various other factors that have a broad impact on knowledge and practices throughout the land.
• Electrodynamics:
The recent frontier of scientific discovery revolves around the study of electricity and its interaction with the electromagnetic spectrum. This field was first formally explored by Flint, a prominent artificer affiliated with the Misfits of Magic. Flint's pioneering work laid the foundation for what is now known as Electrodynamics. However, shortly after presenting his groundbreaking findings to the Lynoan High Council, Flint mysteriously disappeared.Electrodynamics is centered on the flow of energy within all things and seeks to harness electricity to manipulate the visible and invisible spectrum for various practical purposes. As one of the most recent and innovative fields of science, it attracts numerous newcomers and holds immense potential for applications across Dionis. For example, it has led to the establishment of new Voltaic substations in urban areas worldwide, revolutionizing energy distribution.
