Die Geschmiedeten ([diː ɡəˈʃmiːdətə])
The forged Ones
The only known sapient species traced back to the great burning, they inhabit all parts of the world, wandering over the world, looking for new things to discover and new knowledge to spread.
Basic Information
Anatomy
They look like humans (two arms and legs, two eyes, a mouth), but they are coloured based on different metals. Some are golden, others are copper or the colour of iron. The bodies are way more robust than those of humans. Their hair also follows this colour scheme, but is always different from their skin colour. Their bones are reinforced with metals, and so is their whole body and their hair.
Biological Traits
They have all kinds of bodyforms, every person is distinctly influenced by their parents while being weaved. The only thing they have in common is that they are taller and heavier than humans.
Genetics and Reproduction
They reproduce asexually. When two (or more of them) choose to get a child, they cut off their hair and create a child out of it in a process they call "Teksado" ("The Weaving"). It is a long process. While weaving, they need to agree on the different features of the child. It often gets compared as being an artwork in which every artists brings in their unique style.
Growth Rate & Stages
After being weaved, they grow up like human children.
Ecology and Habitats
They are surprisingly flexible, being able to survive all kinds of weather. They tend to be crafty and rather openminded it terms of magic and technology, using both to great effect in creating a good habitat for themselves.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Like regular humans. Which often brings up the question how exactly they fuel their metallic body.
Biological Cycle
They don't sleep, instead they fall into a deep meditation for ~4 hours per day, in which they tend to focus on one thing that occupies their mind. In it they retreat in a mental world they share with everyone of their own species.
Additional Information
Social Structure
They are anarchistic people, tending to form communities of interest. Many of them join different societies. Everyone chooses their own path sometime in life, marking their step into adulthood
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Some humans had the idea of using them as living cattle for metals, by capturing them and using their hair. It turned out that for now humans can not extract the metals out of their bodies, and as they can contact the rest of their people in their meditations and are more focused on personal freedom (+ bigger and stronger) than the average human, every attempt to enslave them ended in a bloody conflict.
Facial characteristics
Their eyes slightly glow in the dark. Some of them might have facial hair, although this gets decided by the parents while weaving the child.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
They are found all over the world. From the freezing wastelands to the deepest jungles they feel at home. Although every person might have preferences
Average Intelligence
They are fully sapient, on a level with humans.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
They have all the regular senses, but they can determine the composition of metals by touching them.
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
They have a wide array of first names, as they depend on the part of the world where they live and raise their children.
They possess no last names, so if they live in societies where last names exist, they tend to use their job or metal colour as their lastname
Examples: Alyra Silver, Luan Weaver, Adrian.

Major Organizations
Once every 50 Years, all "Geschmiedete" can meet in a great covenant they call "Asembleo", in which they confer about the state of the world. It is normally an event where other species also participate, as it is the best way to learn about what happened in the last fifty years. The organisation of this meeting happens in their meditations, in which they communicate with one another and choose a location for the "asembleo". Normally this place is one of great historic significance in the last 50 years.
Otherwise, they form loose communities of interests. It isn't uncommon for one of them to strike out into the world to search for a new, more fitting community or even join organizations of other species. Their communities are often diverse, as humans are free to join them, if their interests align. Often they also join human settlements, especially if they have friends there or there is something interesting to discover.

Beauty Ideals
Long, well kempt hair is a sign of great beauty for them. Otherwise it's mostly up to individual tastes, as they deeply value individuality.
Gender Ideals
Gender is foreign concept for them, they associate people based on their beliefs, ideals and actions. They use names, or "They" for everyone, even when talking to humans.
Courtship Ideals
Trading a strand of hair with another signifies a romantic interest, and normally is accompanied by a long discussions about their common goals and interests. It is expected that you would share your life and your goals with the chosen partner(s), so courtship is often a display of support for the person one wants to court.
Relationship Ideals
A deep understanding of the wishes and aspirations of a person is necessary to form strong relationships. Common interests are much more important than looks or personality for them, on the contrary, they relish heated discussions. Again, individuality dictates that their are not many shared ideals for relationships. Poly- or monoamorous? Depends on the person. They also strike up relationships with humans, if they have compatible minds.
Average Technological Level
Potentially the pinnacle of technology, but they have no interest in building big, they tend to focus on the smaller communities.
Common Etiquette Rules
Respecting the wishes of everyone in the community, you need to ask for permission to stay from everyone.
It is unwise to not discuss ideas, and they will be offended by people just dismissing arguments or just agreeing, if they know you think differently.
Refusing to discuss with someone is the highest form of disrespect.
Common Dress Code
Doesn't really exist, although some communities might have certain ideas about apporpriate dresses.
Culture and Cultural Heritage
They are the somehow connected to the great burning, and as such often search about everything connected to it.
Common Taboos
Shaving the hair of someone is the highest punishment, and is a permanent banishment.
Hair loss is really embarrassing for them, but some might go bald just to rebel against this stigma.
While heated discussions are welcome, they normally abhor violence as only acceptable in self defence
The destruction of technology and/or knowledge or prevention of distributing it without good reason are a great taboo.
History
No one is sure where they come from, but it is generally agreed that they were an experiment of some kind, as it is unlikely that a species like them could have developed on their own. The only thing know is that they appeared around the time of the great burning. If and how they are connected to it is a mystery.
They were once the elves directly helping the five elves that became Mechanika. As a parting gift they were altered by them to become the first Geschmiedeten. They should be their chosen people in this world. Though the experiment went rather well, the cosmic retcon that followed their ascensions made the Geschmiedeten forget their origins. They technically weren't elves anymore, but recieved some... changes, making them closer to humans in certain aspects. They still kept the thirst for knowledge given to them by Mechanika. As for Mechanika, they don't remember why they altered them and refuse to acknowledge this as long as Mechanika doesn't know the true story.
Historical Figures
Some legendary creators, especially inventors, are Geschmiedete.
The person responsible for the new magic-industrial revolution is one of them
Common Myths and Legends
Every community creates their own legends and myths, but the dream world they share is said to be a gift from their creator. The myths differ on the reasons for it. Some see it as punishment, so they never may be truly alone and one individual. Others see it as a gift from a deity, giving them the tools to strike out in the world but still share their knowledge with one another.
This feeds in the general myth of their creation: Did they cause the great burning? Where they made by it? Or is it all a coincidence? Almost everyone of them heard a legend of their creation, and everyone heard a different story. The only common thread is a mysterious deity that created them: Mechanika.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
They have a deep fascination for all intelligent life, which is so strangely different, but in many ways similar to them.
One of the things they seek is new life on the planet, maybe a kindred soul that also shares their magical heritage.
