Muck Town
A warning for those wishing to venture to Muck Town: Don't. It's a very dangerous place and it's very close to the wilderness of The Murk.
Decklund Sayre, Wonders of the Dalelands
Despite the warning from Decklund, many find themselves visiting Muck Town at some point of their lives. Usually it just happens to be the last day of their freedom. The town was built upon a camp or an outpost leftover from the long march South after the dwarven incursion many years ago. The humans and elves famously lost that battle and once again were uprooted from their homes. History hasn't been kind to the humans of Daven's Dale, and Muck Town is a culmination of everything negative that has happened. It is a pit of depravity and crime. The Red Scarves, a gang of bandits, have famously declared this place as their home and nothing comes through the town without their approval.
But even this lawless zone still hides a few hidden gems if you know where to look and who to deal with. Halflings and gnomes should stay away though. They tend to immediately be captured and sold to the dwarfs in the north. No one can say for sure why, but there are those who speculate it's because they are being used as slaves for mining. Members of the League of Champions have been trying to purge the area of crime for years, but to no avail. The leadership of The Red Scarves is primarily unknown and is thought to be more than one person.
The traders who do go far enough upstream to visit Muck Town are usually most welcome there. They bring essential goods to a pitiful little slum on the border of a swamp where most crops cannot grow. Only those who actively start trouble or are unable to turn a blind eye to the shady dealings in the town face any consequences or penalty. So, if you're going to Muck Town you'd best be selling something, buying something rare, and always keeping an eye on your coin purse.
