Grimview Clan
The dwarf clans tend to be devout in many ways, choosing to worship a personal pantheon of divines and lesser deities. Dwarves, as blessed as they are with longevity, know that Death eventually comes to usher everyone to their final rest. They choose to honor life and hard work more than they desire to celebrate death. In fact, there is only one clan that holds eternal slumber as sacred as the life that had once been. The Grimview clan may be the only clan that includes Morgana in its selection of worship. They hold the Lady of Repose higher than even mighty Phoebus.
The Grimview family is smaller than many of their fellow clans. The beliefs and rules for taking husbands and wives, and even producing offspring is very strict within the family. Bearing children is somewhat of a sacred act and is only done once every twenty or so years. "Only death pays for life, and life pays Death." is a common saying, the superstition having survived for centuries.
The family has a rich history in Daven's Dale, having been there for the founding of the new capital of Daventry. They even helped to build portions of the city when called upon to be stoneworkers and masons. But the real skill of the family is not in construction, metallurgy, or fine crafts. The Grimview clan is known for holding and performing final rights. They have served Daven's Dale as morticians and clerics of various gods since the time of Daven of Cardiff. They would wander the countryside and perform blessings on those who had fallen and left alone and helpless so that the spirit might find the guidance it needed to move on to the next world.
One of the blessings of the Grimview clan is heterochromia. Once every so often a child will be born with two differently colored eyes. It is believed that this represents the ability to see beyond the material plane. Some Grimviews would become diviners, others could commune with the dead. The blessing manifested differently from one child to the next, and sometimes nothing came of it at all. But to have the mark of the Clan was a high honor and believed to be a gift from Morgana herself.
