Daven's Dale

Green hills tumble down from snow-capped peaks that frame the sky as blue as sapphires. Daven's Dale has become a sanctuary to all who visit or settle here. Losing oneself to the quaint qualities of life here is not uncommon. In fact, many old and retired adventurers dwell here in the dale. I settled here long ago when my adventuring days were done and I don't think I could have found a better or more peaceful place to call home. From the village of Veros all the way down the valley to Jernigan's Bridge and even the capital of Daventry itself the land is green. Lush emerald plains and fields of crops being grown throughout the warm seasons. When the equinox comes and the leaves begin to turn gold and fall from the trees we celebrate the harvest in grand fashion. The line of kings here has been a good one, and I hope the goodness here continues on long after I have moved on from this world. -- A Guide to the Realms, Decklund Sayre, 370

History

Daven's Dale was founded out of necessity in the year 85. A plague gripped the lands north of the dalelands. Many human lives were lost. Being a proactive man, the man known as Daven of Cardiff lead his people south into elf populated lands. Peace and hospitality was offered by the elves who originally dwelled throughout the eastern half of the realm. Within ten years a gleaming city had been constructed and a wild river had been dammed. A new home for the remaining plague survivors. In the year 102 of this age Dwarves laid siege to this new city. Dwarves from the nearby mountains, declaring that the town and castle were upon their mountain, tunneled up into the heart of the town and quickly captured the settlement. Daven and his Elven allies were unable to reclaim the settlement so they moved on. Daven of Cardiff lead his people far to the south and west to rebuild. This time the castle and surrounding town would become known as Daventry.   In 108, Daven feared a possible invasion from the Dwarves to the North. He had the stronghold Caer Dower constructed and garrisoned with a hundred trained men. For years they kept a watchful eye on the northern mountain range, but no attack ever came. In 300 the stronghold was abandoned by King Graham ap Daven   In 332 the realm was attacked from the west by the forces of Queen Nyx. She had sent powerful warriors and necromancers in an attempt to capture Daven's Dale during her campaign of darkness. During a siege on Daventry, King Graham was slain. Before he passed he had signed and sealed a decree that legitimized his only bastard son as the next in succession.   333, Graham ap Daven's son was found, informed of his new title, and coronated during the Harvest Festival. He was age seventeen.
