Create your Character
Alright, you have worked your way through the essentials of this new world and are still interested in diving into it? Excellent!
You have the worst behind you. Now, you get to make some big (but fun) decisions! Who shall your character be?
First of all, do not look at the Player Options in this Brochure quite yet! It is more important to sit back and just imagine a fantastical hero that you'd love to play. Who are they? What do they do? What are their main character traits? What would be a fun back story?
Once you have a rough idea about your adventurer, head over to the Player Options and pick and choose from the Races, Classes, and Backgrounds what fits your idea best!
At last, either in your own time or during session zero, head over to the Character Builder here, that will guide you step by step all the way to your finished character.
Included are links to spell lists for you to choose from, and where to find the choices that your class can make. You will also find a selection of gods you might want to worship. Do not overthink the intricacies of the individual god, as you will shape their personality as much as they will yours as we move along in the campaign. The arguably most important bit is the character backstory at the end. Please take some time to write up some aspects of your character. Think about some bonds, flaws, relationships, believes, principles, what anchors them in the world, their reason to adventure. This can be as little or as much stereotypical as you like. If you would prefer to speak about your backstory beforehand, do not hesitate to speak with your Dungeon Master.
Once you filled out the Character Builder, your character sheets will be created for you, and you will be provided with them for your game sessions.

Although you have all the creative freedom about your backstory, please refrain from creating characters that have overly heroic histories. Slaying orc armies and wrestling dragons sounds amazing – but that is hardly a feat a second level character could achieve.
Your character starts out more powerful than average joe…but not by too much!
The same is true with choosing a long-living race (e.g., elves) and making them 400 years old. It would be a very slow learner still being at level 2. As a rule of thumb, either place your character anywhere in the first 50% of its supposed life expectancy or include a description how they either lost their abilities or only later in life have been able to unlock their potential. A relatable character is easier to play and works better in a team!
