The Sovereign

The Sovereign is the highest authority in the Church of Divine Justice. They are responsible for guiding the Church's spiritual and political direction. The first Sovereign of the Church was appointed in the early days of the organization's formation, after the Church declared itself an official religion.

Qualifications

To become Sovereign, one must have served in the military, and have been trained in the art of sword-fighting, as well as have a deep understanding of Etrmur's religious texts. Additionally, the candidate must have a proven track record of charitable works and service to the community, and be respected and admired by both the Cardinals and the general public. This ensures that the Sovereign is someone who not only embodies the values of the Church, but also has the necessary leadership skills to guide the organization. It is also required that the candidate undergoes a period of prayer and meditation to discern if they are truly called to the position of Sovereign. Once a candidate has been chosen, they are appointed by the Cardinals in a ceremony known as the "Anointing of the Sovereign," where they are presented with a ceremonial sword to symbolize their authority and leadership.

Duties

he Sovereign is responsible for overseeing the overall direction of the Church and making sure it stays true to its founding principles. This includes leading important religious ceremonies and acting as a spiritual guide for the faithful.   The Sovereign also has significant political power, and is often involved in lobbying efforts and negotiations with the government. They work to enact social justice policies that align with the Church's values, and ensure that the needs of the less fortunate are being met.   In addition to these responsibilities, the Sovereign is also in charge of appointing Cardinals, who act as their trusted advisors and help manage the day-to-day affairs of the Church. The Sovereign also oversees the appointment of Eparchs and Priests, and ensures that they are fulfilling their duties effectively.   Perhaps most importantly, the Sovereign is a unifying figure for the Church. They help bring together the diverse regions of Krimeon and ensure that the Church is functioning as a cohesive unit. This is especially important given the Church's commitment to social justice, which often requires collaboration and cooperation between different communities.   The first Sovereign, Bertrand, set the precedent for these duties and responsibilities, and subsequent Sovereigns have built on this foundation. One historically significant Sovereign was Amina, who restructured the Church's economy to better serve the needs of the less fortunate. She also led successful efforts to establish public healthcare and housing programs throughout Krimeon.   Another significant Sovereign was Marcus, who was known for his efforts to bridge the divide between the Church and the military. He worked to establish stronger relationships between the two organizations and was instrumental in the defection of a platoon of soldiers to the Church's cause. Marcus also oversaw the appointment of several Cardinals who helped strengthen the Church's political power and influence.

Notable Holders

The first Sovereign was a man named Marcus, who had been a member of the Soldiers of Justice before joining the Church. Marcus was known for his charismatic leadership and his strong belief in Etrmur's original writings. He played a key role in organizing the Church's early structure and spreading its message throughout Krimeon. Under his leadership, the Church began to develop a sophisticated internal economy, with members expected to tithe and participate in charitable works. Marcus was also instrumental in the Church's lobbying efforts, pressuring the government to enact laws that aligned with their social justice beliefs. He served as Sovereign until his death, at which point the Cardinals appointed a successor. One of the most significant Sovereigns in the Church's history was a woman named Adira. Adira was a beloved Sovereign of the Church of Divine Justice who faced great challenges during her reign. One of the greatest crises she faced was a devastating famine caused by a prolonged drought in Krimeon. Adira rallied the faithful and led them in providing aid and assistance to those suffering from hunger and thirst. She personally oversaw the distribution of food and water to those in need, even traveling to the most remote and isolated communities to ensure that no one was left behind. Adira's leadership during this difficult time was praised by all, and her efforts to alleviate the suffering of the people helped to strengthen the Church's reputation as a compassionate and caring organization. Another notable Sovereign was a man named Jarek. Jarek was appointed during a time of relative stability in Krimeon, and his reign was marked by a renewed focus on the Church's spiritual teachings. Jarek was known for his humility and his commitment to the Church's core values of social justice and equality. Under his leadership, the Church expanded its outreach programs, providing food, housing, and healthcare to those in need. Jarek also worked to strengthen ties between the Church and other religious organizations, promoting interfaith dialogue and cooperation. Jarek served as Sovereign until his death, and is remembered as a gentle but powerful leader who embodied the best of the Church's teachings.   More recently, the Church has been led by Sovereign Xander, who has focused on expanding the Church's lobbying efforts to promote social justice policies in the government. He has also worked to improve the Church's internal economy, allowing for more resources to be devoted to charitable works and relief efforts.
