Loveseed Oil
Loveseed oil is a precious plant seed oil that has a golden hue. It is extracted from the seeds found in the fruit of the Lovage plant. The oil is obtained through a process known as cold pressing, which helps to preserve the natural properties and benefits of the seeds. Loveseed oil is highly regarded for its medicinal properties.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
Loveseed Oil is primarily used for the treatment of abdominal cramping and restricted airways not caused by obstruction. Ingesting the oil is found to help relax the muscles to relieve pain from cramps, while inhaling small drops opens the airways.
Finally, loveseed has been inadvertently found to have contraceptive properties that have been widely used as a method of birth control. The consumption of loveseed oil has been found to temporarily disrupt certain hormones, affecting both the menstrual cycle in women and sperm production in men. However, it is important to note that the specific mechanisms and effects of loveseed oil as a contraceptive are not yet known in the realm of Dessend, as the scientific understanding of reproductive processes has not reached an advanced stage. However, it has been observed that the use of loveseed oil as a form of birth control even temporarily inhibits the production of still eggs in females of oviparous races, such as the R'vathi.
Manufacturing process
- Seed Preparation: The loveseeds are collected and cleaned to remove any impurities or debris.
- Crushing or Grinding: The cleaned seeds are then be crushed or ground using a mortar and pestle, a stone mill, or similar tools. The goal is to break down the seeds and create a paste-like consistency called a mash.
- Pressing: The mash is then wrapped in a fine mesh cloth and placed in a screw press. The press exerts pressure on the seed paste to extract the oil.
- Collection: As pressure is applied, the oil seeps out of the mash. It is collected in a container placed beneath the press. Gravity and the squeezing action help separate the oil from the solid residue, referred to as a seed cake.
- Settling and Filtration: After the initial pressing, the oil is allowed to settle in a decanter to separate any remaining impurities or water. The golden oil rises to the top, while sediment and water settle at the bottom.
- Storage: The cold-pressed loveseed oil is carefully decanted into suitable containers for storage. Typically dark glass bottles or earthenware vessels to protect the oil from light and maintain its quality.
