Proto-Sudkou
After The Fall from the Stars, Humans from all around Earth were scattered all over Derkomai. The majority of the surviving landing ships from the I.S.S Terra Nova (those that were not completely destroyed) came down around the great Black Dragon Sea, the Dragon Fire Sea, and The Dragon's Tail. Some others landed in the region of the North Sea and the Great North Bay.
As they were a hodge-podge of people from all over Earth, none of the native languages of the people that crash-landed in southern Derkomai spoke was dominant. However, nearly all of the original colonists on the Terra Nova spoke at least some English. Over the centuries, the people that settled around the Black Dragon Sea and the southern part of the Derkomai continent developed a language that was the forerunner of modern Sudkou, combining grammar and vocabulary from a number of old Earth languages, including (predominantly) English, various Chinese dialects, Japanese, Korean, and several others. That Proto-Sudkou language continued to change through the natural evolution that languages undergo and through trade contact, eventually becoming Sudkou as it is spoken today.
Because many of the original landing ships were somewhat ethnically homogenous, one of the hallmarks of Proto-Sudkou and modern Sudkou is that there are a number of strong regional dialects, with vocabulary and grammar that are unique to the region, reflecting the old Earth language that most of the ancestors of the people living in that region once spoke natively. For example, the Chessan dialect of Sudkou still has strong echoes of the Japanese and Korean that many of the ancestors of the Chessan people spoke.
