Applebram Syrup
Besides the world-famous Applewine made in villages around Southport, especially Appleton, the chateaus, wineries, and distilleries make other delicious products from apples, berries, grapes, and other locally-grown fruit.
One of the most commonly produced and used of those products is Applebram Syrup, a dark, thick, sweet and delicious blend of crushed apples, Brambleberry juice, crushed grapes, and other fruit. Like for Applewine, the recipes for different varieties of Applebram Syrup are closely-guarded secrets.
Producers of Applewine do not like to waste any part of their delicious apples, so they are also the primary makers of Applebram Syrup. Grinding the remains of pressed apples to a fine sauce, mixing it with brambleberry juice, grape juice, and other crushed fruit and fruit juice according to their secret recipes, then slowly thickening the mixture over a smoky applewood fire, the master brewers of Applebram Syrup produce a sweet, slightly smoky, honey-like syrup that is delicious, but not unhealthy.
As the world's foremost bottler of Applewine, Appleton Chateau, collaborating with Appleton Smokehouse, also produces some of the most delicious and famous Applebram Syrup, but several other businesses in the area make delicious and well-known brands, notably Bree Bread Bakery, which produces a kind of Applebram Syrup that pairs especially well with their famous Brambleberry Buckle.
Nearly every dinner and breakfast table in the region around Southport and Sudland south of (and including) Daskar has a small bottle of Applebram Syrup to pour over pancakes, pastries, and other foods.
In taverns, alehouses, inns, and other drinking establishments, Applebram Syrup is kept in bottles to mix wih Applewine and spirits to make sweet drinks. Many different blends and formulations of Applebram Syrup are produced specifically for that purpose.
Applebram Syrup does not keep as well as Applewine, so it is not traded as much as Applewine, but some caravans transport it in specially-constructed iceboxes for trade as far away as Sendoshi and Okkudo. Applebram Syrup in those places is very expensive and considered a luxury gourmet food. Empress Dowager Fuschiayan Shenlisa is especially fond of Applebram Syrup.
