Lluncastr

Defences

The city had two rings of walls, both of them built from massive marble bricks. The outer wall is lower than the inner wall, as the interior of the city sits higher in elevation than the outer sections. Numerous towers are built into the walls, with more robust towers flanking the gates. Beyond the outer walls, a moat is dredged, luminous with the water of the River Llun, and any attackers who touch the water are wracked with the anger of Mona, often rendering blindness. Within the city, the stable infrastructure acts as a useful barrier for defenders, as the stone buildings are difficult to quickly remove, forcing invaders to fight nearly door-to-door urban warfare, allowing those in the inner city and keep more time to prepare the defenses and get civilians to more secure locations.

Industry & Trade

Lluncastr is the primary city for collecting waters from the River Llun, one of the few naturally occurring sources of Arcane magick that exists in the world. The city is also a center for arcane artisanry, as the waters of the Llun are capable of imbuing items with Arcane magick, making those items vessels of Arcane magick, which can be focused for specific uses by means of the Runes.

Infrastructure

The city had a complex sewer system that diverted waste away from the Lunar Bay and into the marshlands further East, consisting of arcane-powered pumps to overcome blockage and problematic terrain. The River Llun was also diverted into a series of intricate canals and aqueducts, which allowed easy access to the arcane waters throughout the city, and would illuminate it at night. The city streets were simple brick roads, the largest beign wide enough for two chariots to drive down side by side, with four metres to spare, including the side-ways.

Architecture

White marble is the preferred stone of the Llunerians, and the city of Lluncastr rivaled even the holy city of Rhuma in the use of it. The style of the architecture borrowed heavily form Rhumnaria, while also developing and expanding on the concepts of arches and domes, creating vaulted rooves with towering columns. The architecture of the Wal'Shönai likewise influenced the Llunerians, and thus high towers rose from the ground, and the images of trees decorated the stone halls of the city.

Geography

Lluncastr resides on the banks of the River Llun, close to its source in the mountains. To the southwest of the city lies the Glimmering Woods which grow along the river, and the Lunar Bay shines at the River Llun's mouth. To the North of the city, rolling grassy hills rise up to meet the mountains further North, which mark the border to the kingdom of the Aranai.

Natural Resources

Silver and iron are mined in the nearby mountains. The arcane waters of the River Llun supply the city with a limitless source of magick for its magi. Pine and Birch are the most common of trees in the region, though the Oak forests on the southern border provide much of the lumber for the city.
