Faith of the Eight

The Faith of the Eight, also called the Children of the Eight, is a religion founded by the Clándhia, to explain the source of their magical powers. Throughout the history, they also converted the Péokame and some of the Dáotara to their faith.

The religion is a polytheistic religion that follows eight deities, one for each of the magic classes. Additionally, there is one other deity, the God that created All, who is seen as the entity to have created the other eight deities and the world, but has since passed away.

Structure

The hierarchy among the believers of the Faith of the Eight is determined by magical power and prowess, but also by religious devotion. Someone who is able to wield a lot of magical power is considered blessed by the deities, but if they do not show the appropriate respect to the deities and study the holy scriptures, this person will be have a high rank in the religious organization.

In each area with a following of the Faith, there is a temple devoted to the deities. Each temple determines the most talented and most devoted Clándhia in each magic class and they become the leaders of that magic class in that area. This ends up with the leaders of the Faith of the Eight being the Holy Congregation. They are the most powerful Clándhia of every magic class and they make decisions on a global level for the religious community. As such, they also have a hand in global politics in all the Clándhia states that automatically rank inside the lines of the Faith of the Eight.

Symbols

Throughout Degheich, blue is considered the colour of magic. As such, the deities of the Faith of the Eight have each been assigned a blue animal to represent them. These animals are protected by law in the religion and are not to be disturbed in their natural habitat. They are also depicted on the crest of the Faith of the Eight. Next to blue, silver is considered an important colour, because it is the colour of Life Energy. Some Life Energy always gets emitted when magic is cast, so the silver glow is a signature sign of magic as well.
