MarbleFlies

Written by ArrowsmithArts

"Oh, you want to know about the MarbleFlies?" A young trainer asks from her perch atop a glass tree. She smiles and clilcks her tongue, encouraging a small caterpiller-like creature with tiny wings and antennae lands on her hand. "Their small little buggers. Get into everything, I tell ya!" She tickles the top of its head and its antennae twitch. "Though if you want to keep one you need gllassberry bushes!" The trainer gets a serious look on her face and hops down, standing in front of you with her hands on her hips. "Don't listen to what those exotic pet keepers say. MarbleFlies require glassberry bushes."

Basic Information

Anatomy

A small, caterpiller-like creature that is all possible colors of the observable universe. Their digestive system is able to break down nearly all types of minerals and rocks up to the 8th level of the hardness scale. They are covered in a soft exuviae that is delicate on light touches and hardens on hard impact. Their underbelly is soft and easy to break open.

Growth Rate & Stages

MarbleFlies start out as eggs and begin to hatch after 3-4 weeks depending on the light level, hatching best in the dark. After they hatch they start out their true lives as larvae, constant attention from their parents to be fed and watered properly so that they can grow. Unlike most insects similar to moths and butterflies, MarbleFlies do not cocoon themselves and instead continue to steadily grow an exuviae. Once their exuviae is fully grown they begin to develop wings that will push through the exuviae and grow up to 1 foot long.

Ecology and Habitats

The original ecology of Venus was a constant day cycle that made the bright side of the planet unlivable for the MarbleFlies. they lived on the side that was permanantly night.

However, when Venus crashed into the sun and the nearby planets became unlivable they moved to Earth, the ash planet, which was completely different from their original home. They are now in constant sun from the fact Earth is further from the sun but still close enough to make it an ash planet. Because of this they are slowly evolving to fit the new world.

Dietary Needs and Habits

MarbleFlies have a symbiotic relationship with a species of bush called the glassberry where they break open the bottom edge of the fruit and enter to eat the soft flesh inside. They only need to eat once a week, so when they are outside of the fruit they protect the bush from pests that would destroy it.

Biological Cycle

MarbleFlies have not changed much since the death of Venus, however whenever a solar flare happens they don't eat until the solar flare is over and move around erratically. Hormones are released in their body that causes their brains to emit electrons to places that is not usually activated in their brain.

Behaviour

MarbleFlies live in small groups of 3-10, often beginning as a mating pair and then splitting apart after they become too large of a group.

There is very little difference between the behavior of males and females, however
