Summer Camp Prep 2025 Week 1
Nourishment
We must never stop dreaming. Dreams provide nourishment for the soul, just as a meal does for the body
Assignment 1
In Dawn of Others, nourishment is both a physical and existential struggle. With agriculture decimated and clean water sources scarce, survivors rely on scavenging, rationing, and the black market to meet their basic needs. Camp Hope stands as an exception—organized and medically equipped, it offers limited sustenance to its citizens, but even there, shortages spark tension and competition. For Others, nourishment takes on a stranger form; some require raw energy or mutated biomass to sustain their altered bodies, further alienating them from the human population. When nourishment runs out—whether food, emotional support, or purpose—desperation sets in, turning people into predators, zealots, or husks. In this world, survival isn’t just about feeding the body; it’s about keeping the will to live from starving too.
Renourish your motivations
I'm building Dawn of Others as a campaign setting for my friends—a world I've always wanted to play in but never found. We're just beginning our first campaign in this setting, and I’m excited to watch it grow as we play. The focus will be on Camp Hope, the central hub of the story, and I plan to keep expanding its depth and complexity to give my players a rich world to explore.
Assignment 2: Pledge
Revisit your world
I’ve been actively developing this world for the past two years—it’s hard to believe that much time has already passed! Looking back at my Meta, I’m still quite happy with it. It may be a bit long-winded, but it still captures the heart of the setting. The core articles are coming together well and feel solid overall.
Assignment 3
This is the article that I've reworked. Referencing this article wasn't as user friendly as I would like during the play testing. So, the goal was to make it easier to find the portions that are needed and to clarify the rule set more.
Nnie's Camp Chill Guidelines
- Remember the prompts are suggestions, not requirements.
- Write what you're passionate about, leave what you aren't.
- Relax when you feel tired.
- Fight off any pesky brain-squitos trying to make you doubt your work.
- Don't abandon your non-summercamp goals! Write that article you're itching to write, even if it doesn't fit any prompts.
