Empty Memory Crystal

This small, clear shard hums faintly with inner resonance. Cool to the touch, it pulses with anticipation—like a vessel waiting to be filled. Created within the Albany Resonance Facility, these crystals were designed as experimental mnemonic anchors, capable of holding fragments of identity or thought. Most are shattered or corrupted, but a few remain intact—blank slates awaiting memory.

Usage: Memory Anchor

A creature may use an action to touch the crystal and willingly store a personal memory, such as:

  • A formative event (e.g., the day they took an oath)
  • A deep bond or relationship (e.g., a mentor, family member, or ally)
  • A personal belief, flaw, or goal

The memory is encoded into the crystal and temporarily forgotten by the user. While the memory is stored:

  • The PC loses access to any related benefits (e.g., Advantage on checks tied to a background feature, or narrative insight from that relationship)
  • They gain advantage on the next Sanity Save they make while the memory is stored, as part of their identity is shielded from the Quieting

Usage: Memory Restore

At any time, the crystal can be shattered as a bonus action, restoring the memory instantly. This act grants:

  • Restores the memories stored in the crystal
  • The PC becomes immune to Sanity saves for the next minute, as their sense of self surges back into focus

Warning: Memory Decay

If a crystal is not restored within 24 hours of storage, the memory begins to degrade. At the next long rest, the user must make a DC 15 Sanity Saving Throw. On a failure, the memory becomes permanently altered or lost—replacing it with a false memory, or leaving behind only a void.

Flavor Text:

“To forget is one thing. To choose to forget... that’s where the real power lies. But choose carefully—sometimes, you won’t get it back.”
