Pateros is a nation that has undergone a dramatic transformation from a collection of warring tribes to a unified state under the authoritarian rule of King Lucien Holt. Surrounded by more powerful neighbors, Pateros has always struggled to assert itself, but Lucien's ruthless consolidation of power and the unifying threat of the Blightspawn have brought unprecedented cohesion to the nation. The enforcement of a single culture, language, and religion has suppressed traditional practices, but also provided a semblance of stability. With an economy reliant on agriculture, mining, and trade, Pateros is now focused on both internal fortification and external expansion under the guise of providing protection against the ever-present Blightspawn threat.

Geography

Location

Pateros is situated to the southwest of The Reach, bordered by the Kingdom of Borealia to the north, the Principality of Varossia to the south, and Thalindor to the southeast. To the west lies the vast ocean, and the southeastern region features the imposing Shadowspire Mountains.

 

Climate

The climate is temperate with moderate rainfall, experiencing hot summers and mild winters. The landscape features lush forests, rolling hills, fertile plains, and rugged mountains.

Hyranmar, a fortified city named after the first king of Pateros, serving as the political and cultural heart of the nation.
