Novas is a bustling frontier city at the edge of Astorian territory, serving as the gateway between the civilized heart of the Astorian Republic and the untamed wilderness of The Reach. Known for its resilient and ambitious settlers, Novas is a place of opportunity, danger, and rapid growth.

   

Geography & Location

Situated on the banks of the mighty Astorian River, Novas enjoys a strategic location for trade and transport. The river serves as a natural boundary between the civilized Astorian territories and the wilds of The Reach. Dense forests and rolling hills surround the city, giving way to the rugged and dangerous lands of the frontier just beyond.  

Economy

The economy of Novas thrives on trade, lumber, and the exploitation of the rich resources of The Reach. Logging, mining, and trapping are key industries, with caravans regularly transporting goods back to the heart of the Republic. The city’s central market is a hub for adventurers, traders, and artisans, selling rare finds from the frontier.  

History

Founded as a military outpost during the early expansion of the Astorian Republic, Novas quickly grew into a thriving trade hub as settlers pushed deeper into The Reach. The city has endured several sieges and skirmishes, particularly during the War of Shackles when it served as a key supply line. Despite its turbulent past, Novas continues to expand, drawing in settlers and adventurers eager to make their fortunes.  

Culture & Society

Novas has a rugged, no-nonsense culture shaped by its frontier spirit. The people are pragmatic and value self-sufficiency, often welcoming new settlers with cautious optimism. The city’s diverse population brings a blend of Astorian traditions and frontier customs, resulting in unique festivals like the Astorian Regatta and the Founders' Feast. While the city is generally open-minded, tensions can arise between long-time residents and new arrivals.

The Silver Spur Tavern: A lively inn favored by adventurers, mercenaries, and travelers. Known for its rowdy clientele, strong ale, and occasional brawls. Corthwright Manor: The residence of Magistrate Arlen Corthwright, perched on a hill overlooking the city. It serves as both the Magistrate’s home and the seat of local government. The Palisade Wall: A sturdy wooden wall that encircles the city, offering protection from the dangers of The Reach. Regular patrols keep watch for threats beyond the frontier. Temple of the Eternal Flame: A temple dedicated to Vallorian, the Eternal Sentinel, offering blessings and healing to those venturing into the wilderness.  

Threats & Dangers

Novas is constantly under threat from the wilds of The Reach, facing dangers like roving bands of marauders, packs of dire wolves, and territorial disputes with indigenous tribes. Additionally, tensions simmer within the city itself as the influence of the frontier clashes with the authority of the Astorian Republic.

Government

Government: Novas is governed by a council of influential merchants and landowners, presided over by a Magistrate appointed by the Astorian Senate. The current Magistrate, Arlen Corthwright, is a shrewd politician who balances the interests of the Republic with the demands of frontier life. The city also relies heavily on a strong militia, led by Captain Elira Voss, to keep the peace and defend against threats from The Reach.
