Ezekiel Calhoun

Appearance

Ezekiel is a tall, imposing man with a broad frame, his skin a pale, ashen gray from his resurrection. His eyes, once vibrant, are now faded and clouded, giving him a haunted, distant gaze. He bears several old battle scars, along with signs of necromantic energy pulsing beneath his skin—veins of darkened energy that occasionally flicker in the shadows. He wears worn but well-maintained armor, emblazoned with the symbol of The Astorian Republic, though he rarely dons it now. Ezekiel's face is perpetually tired, his expression hard and grim, as if weighed down by both his past and his unnatural return to life.

Personality

Ezekiel is a man seeking redemption but burdened by his own past. He is quiet and solemn, rarely speaking more than necessary, and he carries an air of melancholy wherever he goes. While he now strives to do good, his former cruelty occasionally surfaces in the heat of battle or in moments of weakness, making him wary of getting too close to others. He is both distrustful of and disgusted by magic, particularly necromancy, and will go out of his way to avoid discussing his resurrection. Ezekiel is fiercely loyal to those he views as honorable, but beneath that loyalty lies a deep self-loathing and guilt for the atrocities he committed during the war.

Backstory

Ezekiel Calhoun was once a brutal and feared commander in The Astorian Republic’s army. He rose quickly through the ranks due to his ruthless tactics and willingness to do whatever was necessary to win, including executing prisoners and burning entire villages suspected of harboring rebels. His deeds won him many victories but left a trail of devastation and resentment in his wake. In one of his final battles, Ezekiel was killed, cut down by an enemy who sought justice for his heinous acts.   However, death was not the end for Ezekiel. A secretive cult of necromancers resurrected him, binding his soul to their dark magic for reasons unknown to him. When he awoke in their crypt, he slaughtered the cultists in a fit of rage and confusion, but their magic still lingers within him, keeping him alive. To the world, Ezekiel returned as a celebrated war hero, his death a legend of valor and sacrifice. In truth, he was a monster, and now that he’s been given a second chance at life, he seeks to redeem himself for the sins of his past—though he fears that he may never escape the shadow of his former self.

Quirks

  • Always keeps his back to a wall, never trusting anyone enough to let them stand behind him.
  • Carries a small, weathered locket with a picture of a woman and child inside, but refuses to speak of them to anyone.
