Furnace Affliction

TW: Death, Gore, Torture
One inhale or injection of white onyx leaves a vampire's life on the line. Thus, the vampire's have outlawed any form of whie onyx from being sold or used within the Itude Empire to keep their kind safe. However, various cartels will smuggle the stone into the empire's cities from the Moonlight Expanse. Most werewolf packs in the expanse contain copious amounts from their mines and were the first ones to find out that white onyx effected a vampire's physiological condition.   The second a vampire is infected with the poison, they undergo painful and gruesome transformations, altering their body until death hits them or they manage to receive the one treatment available, which is hard enough to come by as the main ingredient for the cure is in limited supply.

Alestar Sangelfique: "The heat of fire burns upon your skin until it dries out and cracks begin to form. That's when it gets real messy. If you like lava touching you, you won't mind it. But I doubt you want to melt."

Dripping Lava

As the name of the poison suggests, the poison causes a vampire's body to begin dripping lava, but that is only one stage of the poison's effect. The rest of the symptoms are as followed:
Stage One
Furnace Affliction - stage 1 by Arcturian (Pixabay)
The very first symptom to appear is a fever that shows within the first hour. Vampiric temperatures are supposed to remain between 20*F and 35*F. If they start to rise beyond this point, the vampire can have a heat stroke. The fever can also cause halucinations. There is also irritability that makes a vampire unable to remain still or get comfortable.   When the fever gets to be too much, usually within three hour of being poisoned, the vampire blood begins to boil, which starts to dry out the skin. This causes the skin to crack and become flaky with heat seeping out. Around this point, stage two of the poison kicks in.
Stage Two
Stage two continues to boil the blood, but now, the blood leaks from the cracks. No longer is the blood a dark, thick red color, but it is starting to glow with an orangish-red hue as the blood scalds the skin like a second-degree burn.
Stage Three
Furnace Affliction - final stage by Alfonso (Wikimedia)
With the blood slowly turning goopy and causing flesh and muscle to melt, it is safe to say that the blood is becoming lava. More than once, vampires have described the vampire's physical form at this stage as melting candle wax.
Stage Four
The final stage is when the body can no longer sustain itself and the vampire turns into lava. As of now, the vampire is dead.

Treatment

To date, there is only one cure, which stems from the blood of a pureblooded vampire, such as Lucifer, the Light, Morgana, the Reckoning, Vladimir Tepes, Kěith Cheonsa, Abaddon, Beelzebub, Azazel, and Aleister Crowley. Curing a vampire of the affliction usually means a blood transfusion to clean out the vampire's infected bloodstream. However, if a vampire manages to survive the poison thanks to receiving the cure and they have any future children, those descendants may have birth defects.

Prevention

There is only one simple solution to not catch the disease - don't inhale or ingest white onyx powder.

Affected Groups

Since vampires are the only species able to be affected, that means vampires of any age, blood type, genetic predisposition, and sex can be affected by this disease.

Cultural Reception

No vampire approves of white onyx being around them once they learned how deadly it was toward a vampire, and anyone afflicted with the poison is to be avoided at all costs or killed early to prevent the issue of lava forming. Those who have survived the poison are often seen as deformed and to avoid. They are not shunned, but most victims of the poison are already too afraid to be seen in public because of their gortesque scars.

Alpha Cabin
Winter Moon Pack
Journal Entry 15:   Screams echoed through the dungeon, sending shiver through my body. I couldn't stand hearing my people howl in pain from the pack's horrendous ideas of torture. I knew that I shouldn't be down there, but I couldn't resist understanding this pack and its methods. I just had too!   The worst part of it all was the stench of smoldering iron and hot rocks with a hint of sulfur gassess, like hard-boiled eggs being overcooked on a metal plate of armor. That was all I needed to know, or smell. I could never forget that smell, nor can I ever find myself trusting another wolf who used these methods.   Worst of all is Jack... My beautiful soulmate knows this is what happens to my people and he does nothing about it! Did he not think I would find out about this? This all makes me sick. I... I don't know if I can stay in this pack any longer.

History

In 1527 EoL, the first recording on the poison happened. The Lioness Clan reported to the Raven Senate about a group of vampires who had a powder bomb thrown into a meeting and the vampires were showing horrific symptoms. The Raven Senate had the vampires quarantined, but kept outbreak underwarps until the early 1600s EoL.

Around 1602 EoL, Lady Carite of the House of Borain in the Storms Reach became infected with the disease when a letter containing powdered white onyx. She died within 40 hours inhalation. After this, the press got ahold of the information and spread the news like wildfire. In a matter of days, the empire was in an uproar, demanding the head of whomever killed her with such a vile substance. This vengeful state lasted six whole weeks until a group of rogue wolves were caught turning white onyx into powder. Ever since, the empire has strictly banned the substance from its land, else the one caught carrying it wished to be sentenced to death.
