Saurials

Believed to be Beastfolk of the Dinosaurs of Korvel the Saurials are actually foreign to the Dancing Spheres. A flotilla of astral vessels were drawn into the Maelstrom and crashed on Korvel in time long gone by. Settling in the Southern Jungles they built settlements around their crashed vessels. Over time these vessels became the hearts of massive City States carved out of the jungle. Eventually expanding enough make contact with the Korvel High Plains. Since setting out to explore the rest of the Spheres in search of knowledge to make their astral vessels fly again, they have garnered the reputation of being educated sages.

Like Beastfolk, Saurials have different features among different the bloodlines. They provide different adaptations and physical morphologies. But unlike Beastfolk they have a thoughtful and organized society.

Culture

Saurial culture values learning, passing down knowledge and exploration. They traversed the multiverse in seek of knowledge and the crash on Korvel is just a temporary setback. Granted a setback that is stretching into centuries. Their culture is built around apprenticeship, where the elders educate and initiate the young. Every Saurial knows not only their masters, but the genealogy of masters and apprentices reaching back to before the crash. Saurial masters are expected to apprentice five to twenty apprentices at any given time. Journymen, when they are not on an expedition, are expected to assist the masters in training one to five apprentices. This ensures a master will have at least one saurial to replace them in the society.

Leadership passes along certain lines of apprenticeship as the wisdom of previous leaders are handed down to their charges. Debate and inquiry are valued by the society, so that leads to vigorous political conflicts between apprentices as they vie to take on the role of their shared master.

Settlements

Jungle Ziggurats

Protecting the crashed astral vessels, the Jungle Ziggurats are fortified against the encroaching jungle. Massive stone and earth fortifications, riddled with tunnels and caverns to catalog and store the gathered knowledge.

Sanctum

Saurials who travel will create sanctums where they keep their gathered knowledge. These secret caches of knowledge are shared with other Saurials and sought after by other knowledge seekers. On other spheres than Korvel, they are often protected by powerful exotic magics and traps.

Religion

Cut off from their Gods by the Maelstrom and the Curse of Nullification the Saurials are falling to nihilism. As the generations who survived the crash died, the loss of those souls were extremely mourned by the community. Instead of leaving monuments of the dead they gather testimonies. Every Saurial will have a book on them where they journal their life and what they discover to pass on to their descendants, in that way their name and knowledge will survive.

The stars were our home, and will be so once more.
